These weekly Power Lists are beginning to feel a little pointless, considering the Idol who occupied the number 1 position on my list last week was promptly eliminated.
Nigel spins Season 10’s surprise boots as a consequence of too much talent. I chalk it up to too little passion. While viewers are generally enjoying this season, I don’t get the sense that any of these kids have super-devoted fan bases to back them up.
Hey, maybe I’m wrong and there are stans losing their minds somewhere other than the Idol destinations I frequent. But I’m not feeling the passion of seasons’ past. Viewers seem to be enjoying Season 10 generally, but aren’t super invested in the cast– picking their favs on a week t0 week basis, rather than choosing a horse and sticking with them.
I think all bets are off with this crew. Anything can derail anyone of them at any time. They’ve all got to be feeling insecure at this point.
So with that, I rank where I think the Idols stand as they enter Top 8 performance week. Scotty is number one, but if he decides to countrify “Against all Odds” for movie week? His ass is grass.
- Scotty McCreery – Scotty knows who he is, seems to be unflappable, and does have a fan base willing to vote for him. Right now, he’s number 1. If Scotty can show some true versatility in his performances, he’ll could have this thing sewn up.
- James Durbin – Scotty and James could be our final two when all is said and done. Last week’s performance wasn’t one of his best, but slowing it down last week (and crying afterward) was an attention grabber and showed some versatility.
- Paul McDonald – Paul’s rollicking version of Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues” shoots him back up the list. Of course, any little thing could drop him back down–or out. He’ll probably perform 1st or 2nd this week after getting the pimp spot last week. It’s vital that he makes a good impression this week.
- Casey Abrams – Casey’s elimination proves pretty much anything could happen with him. But this week, he’s ahead of the girls. If he goes back to the crazy eyes and the confusing performances, he could be booted again.
- Lauren Alaina – With the females getting picked off one by one, it seems the girls don’t belong at the top of the list. Laurens never been in the B3, but that does not seem to mean much–neither had Pia, or Casey, for that matter, before they were eliminate. Lauren will likely be the last girl standing, however.
- Haley Reinhart – Haley has been gathering steam the last couple of weeks, but I would not be surprised if she’s eliminated in the next couple of weeks. Shes got to keep singing well and wearing those short-shorts.
- Jacob Lusk – I think Jacobs days are numbered. If he turns another tune into a scream-fest this week, he’s gone. Also, mistakes can have a ripple effect. An Idol can survive a bad performance/foot-in-mouth, only to be bounced the following week–especially if the performance is mediocre.
- Stefano Langone – Poor Stefano. Pia’s elimination was in NO way his fault, but he may be punished for it anyway. Stefano better sing his butt off this week if he hopes to stay.
