American Idol 11 Top 9 – Songs From Their Own Idols – Song Picks!

The Idols sing “Songs From Their Own Idols”. That’s a broad net to cast, so song picks will be pretty random this week!  Although Nigel Lythgoe did leave some hints via twitter: “next week they’re singing their #IDOL’s songs. Beyonce, Mariah, Miranda, Lifehouse, Daughtry, Led Zeppelin. Now that should be interesting?”

Keeping Nigel’s hint in mind, here are my picks:

Colton Dixon –”Broken” by Lifehouse. – Colton has been itching to sing some Christian Contemporary I’ll bet, and after his little “yay Jesus” speech  last week, I’ll bet he’s singing Lifehouse.   “Broken” has a spiritual message and is exactly in his wheelhouse.
Deandre Brackensick – Hm. If he can get it cleared, Prince could be a good pick for Deandre.
Elise Testone –  “The Ocean” by Led Zepplin –  I’ll bet Elise is singing Led Zepplin. I hope so, because I cannot WAIT for her to let loose and rock out.  Oh look. Here she is singing The Ocean. Could that be her song pick?
Heejun Han – “Home” by Daughtry – Can I imagine that Heejun Han is a Daughtry fan?  I think “Home” would be a perfect pick for him this week. Just because. Ahem.
Hollie Cavanagh – “I Know You Won’t” – Carrie Underwood (Kelly has already turned it into a pop song) or “Vision of Love” just because I like it – Mariah seems like the obvious choice for Hollie. But she tweeted Carrie Underwood, thanking her for her Idol gift and urging her to watch this week. Hollie has covered Carrie on numerous occasions so….hm. I’ll pick two songs for her.
Jessica Sanchez – “Love on Top” by Beyonce – Could this be the week Jessica tackles some Beyonce?  She has sung “Love on Top”.  It could be a good choice for her. Not only is she familiar with the tune, but would give her the opportunity to sing something upbeat, for a change.
Joshua Ledet – “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green – I’d love to hear Joshua sing a tune from the Reverend Al Green. If he’s not a hero…he should be!
Phillip Phillips – Dave Matthews:  “Ants Marching” would be obvious.  “Grey Street” – a song about depression, based on the life of Anne Sexton is my pick. Better than the creepy “Crash into Me” – Would Dave Matthews clear a song for Idol? Phillip tweeted earlier in the week that he had a song that he didn’t plan on changing up too much.
Skylar Laine –  “The House That Built Me” or “Kerosene” –  It’s not a stretch to imagine that Skylar is the contestant performing Miranda Lambert. But what will she sing? What should she sing?  She loves Waylon Jennings too! A Jennings tune could be an interesting twist. But if she’s singing Lambert, I could imagine her picking the obvious “The House That Built Me” but I’d prefer something spunky like “Kerosene”
