ETA: From TMZ:
There will be a stunning turn of events on “American Idol” tonight, because TMZ has learned one of the absolute favorites to win the competition will be eliminated.
Sources connected with the show tell TMZ … producers are scrambling to persuade the judges to use their “save” on the contestant.
We’re told producers actually thought 2 of the 3 contestants in the bottom tonight were strong candidates to win the entire competition.
And we’re told the person who is booted tonight is the one producers thought was the strongest on the show, and they are as stunned over the vote as they were when Jennifer Hudson was kicked off the show.
I’m having a tough time with the power list this week! I’m putting Skylar Laine last because she performed first, and her duet with Colton-the last viewers saw of her–had pitch issues.
Elise Testone was saved by the pimp spot, and Hollie Cavanagh will get a slew of pity votes from fans who felt the judges were unfair.
Jessica Sanchez remains at #1 this week. She had the performance of the night. Phil Phillips will make his first appearance in the Bottom 3, but he won’t be eliminated.
My list looks a little goofy, but Nigel tweeted this last night, “I didn’t think the judges were fair on Hollie but it’s all subjective. I more than not usually agree with them. Interesting voting tonight!!”
So…hm.
ETA: Prediction for who will be eliminated tonight? Nobody. The judges have 2 weeks to use the save. And they HAVE to use it to make up for the elimination of Jermaine Jones. There is a good chance tonight will be the night.
ETA: Ryan Seacrest tweets a SHOCKING result for tonight. “there is a result tonight on @AmericanIdol that some would say is very shocking!”
1. Jessica Sanchez
2. Colton Dixon
3. Joshua Ledet
4. Hollie Cavanagh
5. Phil Phillips
6. Elise Testone
7. Skylar Laine
Will we see the Huff tonight? Maybe. The last few seasons, The Huff was saved for the Top 5. Last season, . Scotty McCreery refused to choose a side. And in the past few years, that’s pretty much how the contestants react, so I’m not sure why Nigel bothers anymore. The Huff has lost it’s punch.
For you newbies, the Huff is named after Season 3 Idol, George Huff, who was the first Idol asked to choose which group he thought was safe. It was so humiliating for George, the producers thought it would be super awesome to repeat it every year.
Basically, Ryan divides the finalists into two groups. The last contestant is designated “The Huff” and is usually declared safe, and asked to pick the group where he thinks he belongs. Sometimes, “The Huff” isn’t told if they are safe or not and are told to pick where they think they belong. Former Huffs: Lee DeWyze, Adam Lambert, David Archuleta, Melinda Doolitte, Taylor Hicks and Bo Bice.
