It’s been a season full of ups and downs, but the very last American Idol performance final EVER was STELLAR. Two superb vocalists–Trent Harmon and La’Porsha Renae–literally duked it out for the win. In this new singing show age of winner take all, both performed as if very aware that the stakes are extremely high. It made for some incredibly satisfying television.
I can honestly say tonight’s performances were a draw. Maybe Trent’s moving performance of “Chandelier” gave him a slight edge. He intense interpretation embodies the sadness and desperation of the lyrics as if he lived them every day. But there is no denying La’Porsha. That woman’s voice is a gift from the deities.

Dalton Rapattoni left the show with a ton of class. It seemed as if he prepared himself all week to leave the competition–all smiles and gratitude. I was a little worried for his mother, who was balling her eyes out. It helped that the producers got it right this time around, allowing the eliminated contestant to sing one song, followed by a lovely send off. Dalton got the chance to thank his fans. It was as feel-good as an elimination could be.
After the elimination, it was time for Trent and La’Porsha to get down to business. And what a show they delivered. Both sent off American Idol in a spectacular way, and should be very proud.
