The remaining American Idol Hollywood Week contestants are headed to Hawaii to tape the Showcase round. The news was announced on Friday (Dec 14) via the official American Idol twitter page: “Beyond excited to say ALOHA to the @DisneyAulani Resort and Spa, the next stop on our journey to find #TheNextIdol!”
Watch judges Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie announce the surprise news. Needless to say, the contestants cannot contain themselves. Spoiler alert: More blurred out faces. Boo.

American Idol has history with the Aloha state. Back in 2004, the show headed to Honolulu as part of the season 3 search for the next American Idol. Finalists Jasmine Trias, Camile Velasco and Jon Peter Lewis all auditioned therein the island paradise. Ultimately, it was North Carolina native and Atlanta auditioner Fantasia Barrino who took the crown.

American Idol 2019 Hollywood Week Kicks Off in Los Angeles
Another connection–reigning American Idol winner Maddie Poppe and runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson won a trip to the Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa which is located in Ko Olina. Disney/ABC seems keen on promoting the property, which, according to the resort’s official website, opened in 2011.
Maddie and Caleb are there now, and according to ABC, “they got to celebrate in person with Mickey and Minnie!”
Additionally, American Idol has made Hollywood Week field trips in the past. Notably, during seasons 10, 11 and 12, the show held post-Hollywood rounds in Las Vegas.
Katy is so excited about the trip that her reaction included all caps AND misspellings. “I WAS SCREAMINF BECAUSE I AM FONNA SEE MINNIE AND MICKEY IN HAWAIIAN PRINT OUTFITS AND EAT MICKEY MOUSE SHAPED PANCAKSE EVERY MORNJNG I LOVE MY LIFE.”
