American Idol airs Wednesday Jan 20 (Philadelphia and San Francisco) and Thursday Jan 21 (Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco) at 8/7c PM on FOX.
Manny Torres discusses the dance moves he’s sure will impress judge Jennifer Lopez, with Ryan Seacrest before entering the audition room to sing “This Love” by Maroon 5. There was more guitar than hip action, but Jlo seemed to be impressed anyway. “So cute!” she says to fellow judge, Keith Urban.
Avalon Young informs the panel she was named after the Roxy Music song and shows off the lyrics she’s had tatooed on her upper arm. The singer, however, doesn’t go old school. She performs Beyonce’s “XO” accompanying herself on guitar.
Red-headed Collette Lush informs the panel that her ilk will be extinct before 2030, to which judge Harry Connick Jr. exclaims, “I love red hair!” Keith notes she has “I Dream of Genie Hair.” But when she launches into a big voiced rendition of Beyonce’s “Who’s Loving You,” by the Jackson 5, she blows the judges away. “I feel like Carrie Underwood just walked in here,” says Jlo to Keith as the singer belts it out.
