The American Idol 2018 two part finale airs on ABC. On Sunday May 20 (8 pm ET/PT) the Top 3 Maddie Poppe, Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Gabby Barrett will sing for your votes. And on Monday May 21 (9 pm ET/PT) a winner will be crowned.
But in between the contestant performances and results, special guests are set to perform. American Idol announced on social media that there will be performances from judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. In addition, Bebe Rexha, Darius Rucker, Gary Clark Jr., Nick Jonas + Mustard, Patti Labelle, Kermit the Frog (!!!), Yolanda Adams and the Top 10 will perform.

I suspect these announced guests will be performing with the Top 10 contestants. Nick Jonas tweeted, “This Monday @mustard and I are bringing #Anywhere to the @AmericanIdol stage and I’ll be performing with a special someone Don’t miss it!!” Maybe Nick is performing with Dennis Lorenzo? Hm.

How about Catie Turner with Katy Perry (since the two talked about performing together early on). Maddie Poppe with Kermit the Frog (Her audition song was the muppet tune “Rainbow Connection”) Michael J. Woodard with Yolanda Adams? Ada Vox paired with Miss Patti Labelle? Darius Rucker and Caleb Lee Hutchinson? Gary Clark Jr. and Cade Foehner teaming up? What do you think?
Also, Catie tweeted (returned by the American Idol twitter account) that she’ll be singing an original song. “I will be performing an original for the AMERICAN IDOL FINALE,” she tweeted.

And I had this exchange with Ely Rise who wrote Michael J Woodard’s winners song. Could it be that the Top 7 contestants will all perform and maybe even record original songs?
Damn. I wrote Michael’s finale song :( oh well.

Also, it’s worth mentioning here that American Idol goes back to ET/PT time next week. NO MORE coast to coast broadcasts this season. The Top 3 will perform on Sunday for your overnight votes.
