The fourth night of American Idol 2019 auditions featured the return of a fan favorite from season 16–Alyssa Raghu. The young singer worked hard all year preparing to return. We’ll see if she makes it farther than the Top 20 this time.

For me, the singer of the night was Ashley Hess. Her beautiful tone and exquisite phrasing place her at the front of the pack. Evelyn Cormier who met and married her husband on the TLC reality show 90 Day Fiance showed promise with a unique take on the oft covered “Wicked Game.” And the show closed with 27 year old Lauren Engle’s beautiful tribute to her late husband. Her moving original song showed promise.
I could have done without: The return of Jessica Whitley? Why bring a joke contestant back after 7 years only to humiliate her again? The bit with Mize Well, the crappy beatboxer was a waste of time. Also, I was thoroughly confused by the judges reaction to model Katie Belle. Luke fawning over her verged on the creepy. Hopefully, it won’t be a running theme in next week’s Hollywood episodes.
