American Idol Top 7 REVEALED – Vote in the POLLS
After three American Idol at-home episodes, the contestants seem to be settling into their unusual circumstances. In particular, Dillon James and Louis Knight are finally becoming comfortable singing on their back porches, while staring into an iPhone.
Judge Luke Bryan believes that singing songs from the Disney catalog stretches the contestants in interesting ways. But I think, it’s mostly kind of awkward. Case in point: It’s notable how much better the mom’s day dedication performances were than the Disney tunes. The singers, able to choose meaningful songs, dedicated to people they loved, were way more connected to their performances. Every singer rose to the occasion in the second half of the show.
As far as the eliminations are concerned: I would have swapped out Louis Knight or Dillon James for Jovin Webb. Now, the Top 7 are full of Dudes With Guitars, and a couple of female singers. The show tries hard to make the Top 20 diverse, but it always comes down to the strummer singier dudes. I’m not sure who will win American Idol, but feel fairly confident a guy will win.
Still, I want to reiterate that ABC and American Idol producers are doing the best they can under the circumstances. Make sure to check out the press release for next week’s show. A repeat of a previous performance will serve as the winner’s coronation single. After the taped episodes ended, there have been literally NO original songs. And considering how the show cast the Top 20, ya’ll know the plan was for singer-songwriters like Louis, Francisco, Dillon, Arthur, Jonny, and Julia to pull out more self-penned tunes. I suspect most of them will reprise the originals they sang earlier in the show.
Anyway. TIME TO VOTE!
