Congratulations to American Idol 2021 alum Alex Miller. The young country singer recently signed a record deal with Billy Jam Records and will be releasing a new single soon.
Alex announced the news on social media “I’m thrilled to announce that I have signed an exclusive recording contract with Nashville-based Billy Jam Records!,” Alex wrote. “My first single will be “Don’t Let The Barn Door Hit Ya,” produced by Jerry Salley – Songwriter-Singer. Stay tuned for the release date. Be sure to check out alexmillercountry.com for all my upcoming dates.”
In his judges audition, Alex impressed with an original song
On the American Idol premiere last spring, Alex impressed judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan with an original song “I’m Not Over You,” which Alex said he wrote about an old girlfriend. Alex impressed Luke so much that he joined him on the seal to perform a little duet of Merle Haggard’s “Big City.” Luke declared, “I’m taking this boy home with me!” and promised to pull some strings to get Alex on the Grand Ole Opry.
Outside of singing and writing songs, Alex worked on his grandfather’s cattle farm in the small town of Lancaster, Kentucky. American Idol chose Alex’s audition as the first leak of the season.
The judges booted Alex before the Top 24
Alex had a good run, but the judges eliminated him just short of the Top 24. Luke felt that the singer leaned too heavily on old country genres and suggested that he take his personality and carve out his own style. The show framed it as Alex being unwilling/unable to take the judges’ advice to sing newer material. But I suspect they decided that another country teen songwriter, Caleb Kennedy, would be a better bet for the Top 24. Ahem.
Alex celebrates an Anniversary
In any case, Alex got right to work after being booted from the show, playing gigs and staying active on social media. So good for him. On social media this morning, Alex celebrated the the one year anniversary of his American Idol Zoom audition.
“Happy IDOLversary TO Me!,” Alex wrote. “Exactly one year ago today I got on a Zoom call and sang this song for @AmericanIdol and the next thing I knew I was auditioning for @lukebryan @katyperry and @LionelRichie Wow! What a year it’s been!”
