On Sunday night (Dec 4) American Idol revealed the American Idol 2023 Platinum Ticket Winner for Season 21 on the show’s social media sites. Congratulations to Elijah McCormick who nabbed the perk-filled ticket.
During the American Music Awards which aired on Nov 20, the first season 21 vote took place. The show presented clips of auditions from three contestants. Afterward, fans were giving 24 hour to vote for their favorite of the three singers. Winning the Platinum Ticket means that Elijah will be able to skip the first round of Hollywood Week, which is taking place right now, and maybe even choose his own partner for the Duets Round.
During his Nashville audition, the Pinecrest, North Carolina native sang a soulful version of “God Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts (WATCH), The young singer has a compelling backstory. After graduating high school, Elijah was in a serious car accident shortly before his planned summer 2019 American Idol audition. He spent 79 days in the hospital having numerous surgeries to fix his shattered body. After receiving an invite from the show, Elijah finally got the chance to sing in front of judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
The two contestants who didn’t win the Platinum Ticket are Matt Wilson who sang a romantic version of “For Tonight” by Giveon (WATCH) and Haven Madison a pop singer-songwriter, who performed “Arcade” by Duncan Laurence for her audition (WATCH). Of course, just because the two didn’t win the Platinum ticket, they could both do well in Hollywood and possibly go far in the competition.

American Idol introduced the “Platinum Ticket” last season to celebrate the iconic show’s 20th anniversary season. The judges picked a contestant in each city to receive the special ticket, which allowed the singers to skip the first round of Hollywood Week. Eventual runner-up HunterGirl, Kenedi Anderson, who dropped out of the competition after the Top 24, and Top 10 contestant Jay were the Platinum Ticket winners in Nashville, Los Angeles and Austin, respectively.
The Showcase Round set to film on December 11
Speaking of the competition, Hollywood Week, taking place this week, will end with the Top 60 remaining contestants singing in the LIVE Showcase Round, The Showcase tapes on December 11 at the Los Angeles theater. American Idol is seating a studio audience. Get your tickets HERE.
American Idol judges auditioned singers in three cities including Las Vegas, New Orleans and Nashville. Season 21 will premiere on ABC Sunday February 19.
