American Idol 2024 Top 5 Rankings, Facebook Stats, Poll Results – How would you rank the Top 5?
American Idol 2024 is coming into the home stretch. WHEW. The penultimate episode featuring the Top 5 contestants singing TWO songs from the Disney catalog on ABC Sunday May 12 at 8 pm EDT. Song spoilers have arrived! And they aren’t really spoilers, because Disney released the song list to a big media outlet. Check it out below.
American Idol 2024 Spoilers: Top 5 Disney Night Song Choices
The entire crew flew down to Orlando, Florida to film across all the Disney parks there, including Walt Disney World. Looking at BTS photos already released, the contestants have family members with them. It IS Mother’s Day on Sunday, so expect the topic to come up.
Former American Idol hopeful and country music star Kane Brown mentored the contestants. Jenifer Lewis, fresh off a turn on The Masked Singer as Miss Cleocatra, will perform a Disney tune. Also, the show opens with a group number from judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and host Ryan Seacrest, who sing “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
The show will air coast to coast, simultaneously across all time zones. Even you west coasters can vote while you watch the show!

Top 5 Rankings
5. Triston Harper
For weeks, I had pegged Triston the contestant who could win it all. Now, I’m thinking he’ll be eliminated before the finale. He’s a likeable talented 15 year old, but his youth is catching up to him. His song choices and performances have been uninspired lately. Still, the producers seem to love him. They would probably love him and Emmy to get Hometown visits. He’s got an emotional backstory–rising out of poverty. And if he won, he’d be the first Native American to win American Idol. So, the show may push him HARD this week (good performance slot, judges raves, etc). Anything can happen when it comes to real time voting.
However, if he’s eliminated this week, or doesn’t win, American Idol/BMG will probably sign him to a record contract anyway.
4. Will Moseley
Maybe Will Moseley has come to the end of the line. He’s a solid singer and performer, but predictable. And compared to who is left in the competition–low effort. I don’t count him out entirely. He sings in a genre that’s popular. His raspy, country soul stylings may not be exciting, but they are comfortable like a favorite, worn blanket. Again, real time voting means SHOCK BOOTS not out of the question.
3. Jack Blocker
Now Jack is a guy who is hustling his way through the competition. He reminds me of former winners David Cook (season 7) and Taylor Hicks (season 5) in terms of knowing how to play the Idol game. Like those champs, he’s versatile, unpredictable and can tackle a wide range of genres. So it’s Disney night? And what does Jack pick? A freaking David Bowie song! And at this point, I’m not alarmed at all. He’s likely to nail it. It’s why, right now, he’s my favorite contestant. Also, his Facebook stats are pretty good. His Adele cover is No. 2 behind Abi’s.
2. Emmy Russell
Emmy is a talented singer-songwriter, but part of her popularity has to do with her royal country lineage. Her grandmother is the late Loretta Lynn. Country news websites are covering her non-stop and her grandmother’s socials are hyping the heck out of her. She’s not even a country singer really, but I bet she’s getting a ton of country votes. She’s the only contestant to rank high on Facebook this week with BOTH of her songs.
I’m not going to blame her or get mad at her. Some Idol fans have been downright cruel. Some are upset that a singer with tons of connections is using American Idol to advance her career. Her votes, some say, are from people who care more about her grandmother than her. And some even accuse her of putting on an act. That somebody with her experience and family ties couldn’t be so insecure (wanna bet?)
Anybody can struggle with confidence. Emmy’s grandmother looms large. She’s an artist trying to carve out her own niche in a competitive field. Contestants use whatever advantage they have to keep advancing. Sure, she may outlast singers who are more talented, but that’s the way it goes when fans choose the winner. Long story short–she’s No 2 based on a combo of her talent and connections. Oh well.
1. Abi Carter
Abi killed it last week with her cover of Adele’s “Hello.” When she picks the right songs, she shines. Once she’s able to sing originals again, she should do even better. Her drawback is that she doesn’t always choose the best song. Covering Walk the Moon last week many not have been the best decision. Regardless, her Adele cover was the performance of the night. If she chooses wisely, she could make the finale, or even the Top 2.
American Idol 2024 Top 5 Polls
Readers have clearly chosen Abi Carter and Jack Blocker as their Top 2. They are mine as well. Abi is a creative interpreter of songs, while Jack seems to be able to sing ANYTHING and can be both vulnerable and entertaining. (Click for poll post)

Favorite Top 7 Performance (Pick 2)
Each of the Top 7 contestants sang two songs–one based on the theme “Songs That Make You Want to Dance” and a tune from the Adele songbook. Again, Abi and Jack top the list. The other contestants rankings are statistically insignificant.

Which Eliminated Contestant Was Robbed?
Nobody was robbed, you all say. I agree. I might have swapped Julia Gagnon for Triston Harper. And I prefer McKenna Breinholt to Will Moseley. But it’s unrealistic to consider another outcome. They are both talented singers. Julia didn’t always choose the right songs. She hasn’t found herself as an artist quite yet. Abi is a better singer than McKenna, and Emmy’s connections to the country music world (Grandma Loretta Lynn) give her a boost.
- Nobody was robbed – 46.57%
- Julia Gagnon – 31.39%
- McKenna Breinholt – 22.04%
Facebook Statistics
The numbers below come from the American Idol Facebook page, which posts performances from the singers who survive the cut. The number of views tend to reflect how popular a contestant is.
Abi has the highest ranking Facebook performance and the lowest ranked. That also happened to Kayko, and he left the competition. I don’t think Abi is leaving this week, though. Sneaky, sneaky Jack is this season’s dark horse, while Triston came on strong early, but has run out of gas near the end of the season. He is ONLY 15 and it’s remarkable that he’s done so well so far. Will just MOSEYS ALONG doing his thing and barely breaking a sweat. And he’s got fans.
Notably the Top 3 are Adele covers. But Will and Triston, out of their comfort zones singing Adele songs, didn’t rank well.
