MKY explains that he is auditioning for American Idol to honor his extended family, but also to honor his Mexican roots. Many family members sat in the audience to watch his Showstoppers performance. “I am hoping I can pull it off and show a different side of me,” he said in his video package.”

As MKY accompanies himself on an acoustic Spanish style guitar, which he plays expertly, the band lends a gentle musical backdrop in order not to drown out his delicate and romantic vocals. He hits a long note before the chorus and the crowd goes wild.
