American Idol 9 Top 4 – What Should the Idols Sing?

UPDATE: Are you attending the Top 4 dress rehearsal tomorrow? I need a rehearsal spy willing to send me song spoilers! If you are going to rehearsal tomorrow, and are willing to contact me after, send me an email at mjsbigblog at gmail dot com.

This week, Jamie Foxx, movie star and recording artist, will mentor the Top 4 as they take on the Songs of the Cinema.

Each of the four–Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Casey James and Michael Lynche will sing a solo. But, the 4 contestants will also pair up to sing a duet. No word yet on who is partnered with whom, but that’s part of the fun speculation, isn’t it?

Another development: The list of songs have been expanded from 34 to 50. I’ve updated the list HERE.

New songs on the list include Prince’s “Purple Rain”, which is notable, because Prince rarely clears his songs for Idol (He allowed fellow Minnesotan, Paris Bennett, to sing “Kiss” back in Season 5) And there are songs nobody wants covered on Idol again, like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Falling Slowly”.

The sixteen additional songs don’t improve the original list, that’s heavy on cinema cheese and total WTF?  Should be an amusing night.

So, what do you think the Idols should sing? I’ll be back with my list in a bit.

Update: Wow. List was hard to compile. These songs really SUCK. But I gave it a shot.

My list, after the JUMP…

  • Crystal Bowersox – “Let the Riverrun” by Carly Simon – So hard to pick for Crystal this week! Carly Simon is the best fit for her.
  • Lee DeWyze –  “Don’t You Forget About Me”  by Simple Minds – One of the better songs on the list, I’m interested to see what Lee could do with it
  • Casey James –  “Danger Zone” – Kenny Loggins – I know. I had a really hard time picking out a song for Casey. “Iris” by the Goo Goo Dolls, could be a good pick.
  • Michael Lynche – “It Might Be You” (Theme from Tootsie) Big Mike does well with the sentimental ballads.

Duets:

  • Crystal/Mike –  “Purple Rain” by Prince – This could be awesome
  • Casey/Lee – “Eye of the Tiger” – One of the few non-romantic songs on the list. It’s cheesy, but they could make it work.
