American Idol season 6 alum Antonella Barba arrested after serving prison sentence
After spending several years in prison for distributing fent***l and other drugs, American Idol season 6 contestant, Antonella Barba is in trouble with the law again.
The singer, who competed in the Top 24 in 2007, was picked up by the Pt. Pleasant Beach Police Department in New Jersey Sunday night (March 30) during a vehicle stop.
According to TMZ there was a warrant out for Antonella’s arrest on a domestic violence charge from two weeks prior, and she violated her federal probation from the old drug case, based on the new charge. According to records obtained by the outlet, she was released from the Essex County Correctional Facility Tuesday (April 1) and will be on home detention with electronic monitoring until her next court hearing on April 29.
Antonella was arrested in 2018 and found guilty of possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl in 2019. She got out of prison in October 2021 but remains on five years of supervised release.
Unfortunately Antonella has had problems following the particulars of her release. In August 2022, her probation officer says, according to TMZ, that he conducted a home visit and discovered she moved out of her approved residence in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, the previous month. Afterward, she agreed to be placed on a curfew and wear an electronic ankle bracelet.
Antonella involved in domestic violence incidents
But relationship problems ensued and turned violent at times. In late November, 2024, she was allegedly involved in a domestic violence incident with her ex-partner, named as K.H. in court documents. He was accused of punching Antonella in the face, splitting her skin open and forcing her to get stitches.
The probation officer added that Antonella then got herself kicked out of a domestic violence shelter in January of this year for compromising its location by sharing it with K.H. The pair were allegedly involved in two other incidents in February of this year, which separately involved the Rutherford Police Department and East Orange Police Department. She now has been ordered to cease all contact with K.H. and family as part of her house arrest.
According to court records at the time Antonella “was working as a courier for a large scale drug ring when she was arrested in Norfolk.” According to the document, she was attempting to deliver almost two pounds of fent***l.
Antonella was originally charged with selling or intending to sell 100 grams or more of h*, according to Virginia court records. She refuted those charges. But then the state charges were replaced by federal charges of possession with intent and conspiracy, according to court records.
