American Idol 2021 Audition: Madison Watkins Hair Model is the Full Package
Madison Watkins was on Season 11 of AGT in 2016, but now has another shot at singing show success on American Idol 2021. The young singer performed an original song dedicated to her father for the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan.
Back in 2016 on AGT, only her Judge’s Cuts performance was aired on television. Viewers really liked the performance despite her being eliminated at the end of the show. She sang “Let It Go” by James Bay, with some fans comparing her tone to Ella Henderson.
The singer originally from Fayetteville, AR moved to Los Angeles in pursuit of her dreams. Madison is an even better vocalist now and is much more versatile. She does music that ranges from throwback like her song: Blinded (Watch here) which reminds me of something Dua Lipa would do, not vocally but vibe-wise.
She can also do emotional ballads like her other original, “Worthy,” which is a bit like the empowering songs that Rachel Platten and Lauren Daigle tend to sing. Watch a live music video of it HERE.
She’s garnered a solid social media following with 300K followers on Tik Tok and 84.5K followers on Instagram. She’s been posting music for about 8 years.
In her audition, Madison sang an original titled “Your Little Girl.” I could sense some nerves as the videos I have watched online of Madison’s performances are not nearly as breathy as the singing in her audition. When she belted, she showed off a little growl that made me feel the lyrics, and she turned in one of the best auditions of the night. The line that stood out to me was “Can someone please tell me, what I could ever do?” as she sang it with so much conviction and power. And then, towards the end of the performance, she showed off a nice falsetto. Although not my favorite audition, I can tell Madison is a pro.
Lionel said Madison gave a “package of sunshine” with both personality and vocals and that he loved the timbre of her voice. I agree with that 100%, as did his fellow judges. Luke said that she made “the right choice coming to LA”. Katy noted that Madison is like Britney Spears, the “positivity, and hope in a bottle”.
