American Idol dropout Kenedi Anderson previews emotional new song

Remember Kenedi Anderson? The 17 year old singer from Cruzet, Virginia shocked fans when she dropped out of the American Idol season 20 Top 24 in 2022. She cited “personal reasons” for leaving the competition and has laid relatively low ever since. While she has dropped cover snippets on Instagram and Tik Tok the past year, she finally posted a snippet of new music that she promises to release sometime soon.

“No more cover girl,” Kenedi declared alongside a video clip of her belting the emotional song. The lyrics go: “Even if I lose you for good / I’m done beggin’ for change ‘cuz you can’t fix what’s broke / Can’t make you love me if you don’t feel the same / Then we’re already down the drain / So don’t spend your last lie saying she’s not on your mind / I’m done beggin’ for change.”

In 2022, Kenedi nabbed one of three American Idol platinum tickets after an impressive Lady Gaga cover. Her big emotional vocals immediately positioned the teen singer as one to watch. She advanced to the end of Hollywood Week, the Showstopper Round and then advanced to the Top 24. She traveled to Hawaii and filmed her Top 24 performance. But sometime after Idol filmed the episode, she decided to drop out.

The singer mysteriously dropped out after filming the Top 24, but never explained why

American Idol aired her performance, alongside a message from host Ryan Seacrest, announcing that she had left the competition for “personal reasons.” Kenedi has never delved specifically into WHY she left the show. She wrote on social media at the time, “For personal reasons, I’m unable to continue on American Idol. This has been one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but I know it’s necessary.” She also thanked the judges, the show and her fans.

While she did lay low, she graduated from high school and stayed active on her popular social media accounts singing covers and posting pics. She also performed a handful of live dates, including opening for that other American Idol dropout, Benson Boone.

Kenedi teased new music

In early June, Kenedi announced that “we are officially LA gurlz” revealing that she had made the big move to Los Angeles, presumably to pursue a music career.

Shortly thereafter, she began teasing her fans. “I have a secrettttt” she wrote in one post. Two weeks ago, she wrote, “BIG smiles bc I have the best news ever and I get to tell y’all soon hehehe.” On July 10, she shared more, captioning a photo of herself recording vocals” “It’s finally almost time for me to share my life with you through music. I’ve waited for this my whole life. Kenicats UNITE,” she wrote.

The next day, Kenedi shared the song snippet to her fans without an official title or release date. Stay tuned.
