Just because Fritz Hager left American Idol season 20 at the Top 5 before the Top 3 hometown visits doesn’t mean he didn’t get a warm homecoming from the hometown folks of Tyler Texas.
VIP tickets sold out in minutes
Fresh off his appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan on Friday, Fritz performed at True Vine Brewing Company in Tyler, Texas. The concert was free, but a limited number of VIP tickets sold out in a matter of minutes. “I didn’t know if anyone would come out then my dad said the VIP tickets sold out in 10 minutes,” Fritz told the Tyler Morning Telegraph. “I was like, ‘woah.’”
According to reports, the singer-songwriter performed his American Idol original single, “Hearts Align” along with several Idol covers and original songs. After living in Los Angeles for months competing on American Idol, Tyler was happy to be back home. “I was really excited to sleep in my bed, for the first time in months,” Tyler told the Telegraph. “It’s been a crazy couple of months and it’s good being able to come home.”
“The fact that anyone wants to listen to my music is such a blessing to me,” Fritz said. “I’m just really grateful,”
Before he performance, the mayor of Tyler and the Smith County judge declared May 27 Fritz Hager Day.

New music is definitely coming
In a recent interview with Hollywood Life Fritz promised that “100 percent new music is definitely coming.” Fritz is constantly writing songs, he said. “I was writing throughout all of my Idol experience. I’ve written several songs in that hotel room. I really can’t stop because writing is my outlet.” he added that he “had the chance to meet up with some cool people while I was in LA. There’s cool stuff on the line for sure.”
The singer plans to move away from Texas, but is deciding between living in Los Angeles or Nashville. “It’s like a coin flip almost,” he said. “That choice has been looming over my head for the entire time I was in LA. LA or Nashville, that’s a big one. I think that, regardless, I’ll be moving back and forth between the two cities.”
Also, Fritz confirmed that he and Top 3 contestant, Leah Marlene, plan to collaborate in the future. “We’ve been talking about that ever since Hollywood Week. With the show happening, we were pretty limited in what we could do. But now that the show’s over, I’m really excited to see what comes from that collaboration. There’s going to be plenty of it.”
