After Monday’s American Idol “Judges Song Contest” episode, Katy Perry shared her thoughts with reporters about saving Lady K from elimination. The judge seemed to have a tinge of regret about sending home Tristen Grissett, who performed a wild rendition of The Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
“I didn’t think that Lady K had her best night tonight,” Katy confessed to reporters after the show during a group interview. Katy noted that the singer forgot a few words to Olivia Rodrigo’s “Traitor.” She added, “But I do think that Tristen is a wild card.”
“He’s a rock and roller,” Katy continued, “And it’s really challenging for that genre sometimes to get really far, because it’s not about who’s the best singer — you have to check a little bit of a lot of boxes. But I think that he definitely poured a lot of sauce on his performance tonight and you got to strike a balance. I wish him the best. I’m gonna be seeing him on stage. I’m gonna go to his concerts for sure.”
“It was challenging”
“It was challenging because it wasn’t super-duper obvious because of the performance,” she noted in regards to Lady K. “Based on performances tonight, but I think Lady K is giving us the glow-up all the time. I love it.”
It’s as if Katy thinks that she might have saved the wrong contestant…
In the “Judges Song Contest” the Katy and her fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan each gave the contestants a song. The singer chose one to sing. The judge who earned the most picks “won” the right to save a contestant from the bottom 2. Katy and Luke tied, and both picked Lady K to join the Top 10.
In the meantime, Tristen said his goodbyes on social media.
“What a beautiful experience. Being with this amazing family of singers was such a blessing,” wrote the 17 year old rocker on Instagram. “I’m so happy to have went out with a BANG?? Thank y’all so much to everyone who voted, and to everyone who has supported me through this journey. Y’all are the reason I perform, and the reason I will continue to. Huge things are gonna be happening soon ???? MY JOURNEY HAS JUST BEGUN.”
