American Idol Wins the Night Despite Stiff Competition

American Idol’s Thursday night episode isn’t bringing in the numbers that previous seasons’ Wednesday nights did, but it’s still winning the night:

Via EW:

The crime procedural wasn’t the only show with ratings in the red last night, however, with most shows posting declines. Increased competition likely played a role, since, for the first time since the start of 2011, every broadcaster aired first-run episodes across the board. Fox led the night with a steady American Idol (21.8 million, 7.5). Bones (10.2 million, 3.3) was down 15 percent from last week’s high now that CSI is back.

From TVByTheNumbers:

American Idol’s 7.5 adults 18-49 rating was down just 3% vs. last Thursday, but those results continue to lag well behind last season’s comparable Wednesday outings, as it was 21% behind last season’s third Wednesday’s 9.5 rating. At 9pm, Bones‘ 3.3 rating was down 15% from last Thursday’s season high.

Idol held it’s own last night against first-run shows. So far, Idol is hanging in there.
