When Chris Daughtry’s daughter Hannah Price suddenly died last November by suicide, he and his eponymous band were in the midst of his “Dearly Beloved” tour, promoting the album of the same name. Immediately, the American Idol season 5 alum postponed the remaining tour dates in order to grieve the loss with his wife Deanna and their children.

The band later rescheduled the tour, which kicked off last night (Feb 9). But before he and the band hit the stage, Chris shared a little bit about the grieving process with Loudwire’s Tony Gonzalez.

“I’ve cried more in the last two months than I have in my entire life”

“I’m feeling good. I’ve cried more in the last two months than I have in my entire life, and it’s becoming difficult to stay hydrated,” Chris said. “And I say that because it was healing, it was great that I took the time off and spent away from everything — social media… I just needed that break. There was a time where I just felt like, there’s no way I can perform. I don’t feel like I can be in front of people.”

The singer shared with the outlet that he spent the break grieving at home with his family. Because he didn’t feel like interacting with other, he stayed pretty isolated. Chris was not only processing the death of his daughter, but his mother also. She died only a week before Hannah.

“I’m at a point where I feel like I’m able to be in front of people”

“Now, I’m at a point where I feel like I’m able to be in front of people. I feel like I’ve dealt with — it’s never gonna go away, obviously — but I feel like I took the time needed to really process and deal with it in private and not feel like I have to put on a face for people. Now I’m okay with talking about it,” he said.

Although some of the band’s music is intense, and could trigger some feelings during performances, he hopes the songs heal his fans as well as himself.
