David Cook has a busy weekend ahead. The 2008 American Idol winner just dropped a new SURPRISE single, titled “TABOS” ahead of an appearance at a sold out Jammin Java show tonight in the Washington DC area. Fans can still livestream the show at Mandolin.com. Tickets are $15 and the show begins at 8 pm ET.
On Sunday May 1, David will take part in the annual Race For Hope, to raise money for brain cancer awareness and research. The singer ran his first race in 2009, the day after his older brother Adam Cook died of the disease. It’s the 15th anniversary of the event, which has raised over $36 million.
David chatted with with 7NewsDC earlier today about everything that’s going on in his life right now, including what the new song “TABOS” meant to him. The rocker began teasing the song on social media earlier this week, posting the acronym letter by letter along with snips of the song.
TABOS is an acronym meant to be comforting
“TABOS” is an acronym for ‘this will all be over soon’ which sounds really like a downer, but it’s not,” David explained in the interview which can be accessed HERE.
A Tom Hanks roundtable interview with other actors inspired the song. A moderator asked Hanks about a lesson he wished he’d known when he was younger. David explained, ‘It was this idea of ‘hey things are going really well…just wait. Things are going really bad…just wait.’ I love the lesson in that,” said David, “Just to live a little more even-keel. You don’t always have to ride the wave all the time.”
David to appear on American Idol and will join Pop 2000 tour
Additionally, on Monday May 2, David will appear on “The Great Idol Reunion” special, to celebrate the 20th season of Idol. The Season 7 winner will sing a duet with Season 8 winner Kris Allen. The two both live in Nashville and have become such good friends, they toured together in Europe recently. It’s David’s second appearance on American Idol season 20, after mentoring rock contestants during Hollywood Week.
Also, this July and August David is playing on the “Pop 2000” tour with LFO, O-Town, Chris Kirkpatrick and Mark McGrath. “It’s going to be a blast,” said David, who is really excited to get out and play some shows after the pandemic.
