Fritz Hager performed his first big show with headliner Koe Wetzel and rap artist Nelly for the sold-out inaugural Rose City Music Festival in the downtown square in his hometown of Tyler, Texas on Saturday (Oct 9).
The American Idol season 20 alum has been working on new music since he left the show in 3rd place last May, He’s been in Nashville studios–where he lives now–with collaborators, but when that music will see the light of day is still up in the air.
“I’m so hoping to release my single ‘Caroline,’ which I played during the show,” Fritz told the Tyler Morning Telegraph over the weekend. “I’ve been pushing it on socials, on TikTok a lot, and getting pre-saves up.” He told the outlet that he hopes to release the single in the next few months.
Indeed, recently the singer-songwriter implored his fans to pre-save the song. He claimed to need 15,000 presaves before he could release it. Because he only had 3,000 at the time, he made a deal with his fans. He’d get a tattoo–a design chosen by his fans–for every milestone he hits.
“I don’t have a firm release date”
“‘Caroline’ is sort of the first single for hopefully, an EP and an album coming in the future,” Fritz said. “I don’t have a firm release date for it yet but we’re hoping to put it out before Thanksgiving,” he said. “I’ve just been writing a lot and trying to build this project and new music, which I’m really excited about.”
“The new music, it’s definitely different. A lot of the music I’ve been writing has really just been exploring like, ‘what kind of music do I want to make, what kind of artist am post-’Idol,’,” Fritz said “So it’s sort of taking a lot of the knowledge that I gained from that show, not just about music, but about me and figuring out what kind of music I like to make.”
Fritz said fans can expect danceable songs that you can scream in your car, but also songs that have a story.
“… For every song, there’s always a story,” he said
Fritz appears to be working with 19 Recordings, the American Idol affiliated record label, but Fritz has not made any official announcements yet.
