After landing in second place behind winner Noah Thompson last month at the conclusion of American Idol season 20, HunterGirl is wasting no time. She is already back in Nashville writing songs. On Friday (June 3), the country singer-songwriter shared on Instagram, “Been a great week back in Nashville writing songs!”
And then on Sunday, (June 5), Hunter was ready to reveal some of the fruits of her labor.
HunterGirl shares new song “Hometown Out of Me”
“Wrote a NEW SONG this week!” Hunter wrote on Instagram alongside a snippet of the new tune.”This one is called “Hometown Out of Me.” I want to thank my hometown and all the surrounding counties for supporting me throughout my music journey so far. You guys have went above and beyond, and I love and appreciate y’all so much. Wrote this with @jammyrabbins and @lauraveltz ! Would love to know what you guys think! #huntergirl #music #country.”
The new song is an upbeat tribute to the folks who have stood behind HunterGirl throughout her musical journey. “I’m never gonna not think heaven’s at the end of Daddy’s little gravel road/I’m never gonna not be the same old same me everybody back there knows/An apple’s still an apple when it’s nowhere near the tree/You can take me out of my hometown/But you can’t take my hometown out of me.”

HunterGirl hails from Winchester, Tennessee
Fans got a look at HunterGirl’s hometown, Winchester, Tennessee, during the singer’s Hometown Visit clip featured in the American Idol grand finale.
The singer, who recently celebrated her 24th birthday, shared on her post-Idol Live with Kelly and Ryan interview that her life has changed in ways she could not have imagined. “If you’da told me a year ago that I’d be here talking to y’all..I would’ve told you, you were about crazy!”
Her American Idol winners song, “Red Bird” was inspired by the road near her family’s home.
“Growing up, my mom always said ‘whenever you see a red bird it’s a sign that somebody is watching over you’. When I was going back home to watch the first episode of American Idol I was freaking out…scared. I didn’t think anybody was going to like me. I started praying.” She asked God for a sign that everything would be alright, and a red bird flew in front of her car. Soon, she got back to Nashville and wrote the song.
