Watch Iam Tongi sing the National Anthem in Seattle, American Idol winner teases new music
American Idol winner Iam Tongi performed the National Anthem ahead of the Seattle Seahawks’ Week 17 matchup versus the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lumen Field on December 31.
While Iam considers Hawaii his home, the singer and his family moved to Seattle, Washington after living on the Islands became too pricey. During his American Idol audition Iam noted that he and his family moved to Seattle from Hawaii after they were “priced out of paradise.”
While Iam’s goal is to return to his beloved islands to live, in the meantime, Seattle has been a second home for him and his family. For instance, Iam graduated from a Seattle high school last spring. It must have been thrilling for the laid back vocalist to sing the anthem for what was essentially a hometown crowd. Iam is currently working on new music
In a recent interview with People magazine, Iam talked about how a love for country music came from his late father. He could see himself releasing a hybrid of Island and Country music. The singer has been back and forth to Nashville writing and recording music.
Recently, the singer posted a clip to social media of a new song he’s working on. “Aye guys I’ve been working on a lot of new music and I’m super excited!!!” Iam wrote along side the short clip. “This song is an original song called (Come Through) I got more songs in the works and I’m hella excited, stay tuned”
Hometown concerts
Over the holidays, Iam headlined three homecoming concerts, billed as “Yessah: Iam Tongi Returns to Hawaii,” organized by Rick Bartalini Presents. The first show was held on December 9 at the grand reopening of the 7,000-seat Blaisdell Arena in Honolulu. Iam continued with two more shows on December 12 and 13 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. A portion of the proceeds were donated to assist those affected by the devastating wildfires in Maui.
American Idol runner-up Megan Danielle opened for Iam for the December 9 concert. The two dueted on a spiritual cover of “Where I Find God.”
