American Idol’s Katharine McPhee and David Foster Are Engaged

Katharine and David were on the Italian island of Capri Sunday as she showed off her engagement ring to family and friends over FaceTime. It’s unclear exactly which day he proposed. Katharine’s rep, Leslie Sloan, confirmed the engagement.

Also the 34 year old singer confirmed the news herself on Instagram, posting a screen grab of a conversation she had with Jared Eng, the founder of Just Jared. “He did it at the top of this mountain in Anacapri,” Katharine texted, “Totally dark, only stars. Thankfully he didn’t push me off the cliff. He said it was one or the other. And in the end he spared me.” OK then!

Katharine worked and toured with David over the last 12 years after first meeting him during his stint as mentor on her season of American Idol.  Kirsten dug up their video package which also includes pop opera singer Andrea Bocelli. Katharine would also eventually collaborate with Bocelli live and in the studio.  

And here is Foster sitting in the American Idol finale audience. He’s looking really really pissed after Katharine loses the crown to Taylor Hicks.

Katharine has been documenting the couple’s romantic Italian getaway on Instagram. Fun Fact: Katherine will be Foster’s FIFTH wife. He was previously married to singer writer BJ Cook, followed by Rebecca Dyer, actress Linda Thompson (also Caitlyn Jenner’s ex) was his third wife. His most recent marriage was to reality star Yolanda Hadid (mom to Gigi). He has four daughters and seven grandchildren. Katharine was married to Nick Kokas from 2008-2016.

Another fun fact: Katharine’s fellow American Idol alum Clay Aiken had a child with Foster’s sister Jaymes. Once Katherine and David tie the knot, Kat will be Clay’s son’s aunt by marriage.
