American Idol season 8 winner Kris Allen has announced the release of his next album. “10 is a look back at the last 10 years.” Kris writes alongside a Youtube video announces the set, “I wanted to shed some new light on some older songs of mine. Mostly from the 1st album but with some select others from each of the other releases.” He adds, “I can’t wait to share these new versions with everyone!”
I am excited to announce that my new album “10” is coming out this Friday, 9/20! “10” is a look back at the last 10 years. I wanted to shed some new light on some older songs of mine. I can’t wait to share these new versions with everyone!

In the video, Kris chats about choosing the songs and shares a few thoughts about how it feels to dig into his past. He chose five songs from his first album, the self-titled record he put out months after his Idol win. “I tried to choose ones that I think people really liked and I also tried to choose ones that have a certain story about them.” He continued, “I wanted to almost cover them. Because it feels like a different lifetime ago. Ten years ago is a long time.” Kris adds, “I’m a completely different person. I feel like I’m a different artist. I sing different. I play different and I wanted to approach those songs as almost from an outsider and see what to do with them.”

Kris calls the experience, “really really fun” but also “really really hard!” Post Idol releases were put together quickly, without much input from the artist. Re-recording those early songs from a more mature vantage point, and with total creative control, was probably not only fun and interesting, but somewhat freeing as well!
The album comes out Friday September 20. Catch Kris on his “10 years 1 night” tour beginning on October 2 at Club Passim in Cambridge MA. Click for Tickets.
