Recently, American Idol season 11 alum Phillip Phillips announced he would be hitting the road in January co-headlining a tour with Jon Foreman a founding member of the pop/Christian rock band Switchfoot.
“The tour for next year is not going to happen, unfortunately”
But now, only 1 month after the two made the announcement, the 2022 winter tour is cancelled.
“I hate to inform you,” Phillip said in an online video announcement, “The tour for next year is not going to happen, unfortunately.”
“Hate it,” Phillip said, “it’s just very unfortunate. But I’m so sorry for the inconvenience that this might cause you. But I still love you.”
Phillip gives no reason for the sudden cancellation, but he says, “I don’t know that I’ve ever cancelled shows–maybe in 2013 when I got really sick.” He continued. “Yeah. Something that I don’t like to do. I hate that this is happening. But I love ya. The next one will be just as good, and it will be so fun to see you out there.”
Philip captioned the post: “Well this sucks. Sometimes you can’t win for losing. When I say that I have good things coming for you guys, I mean it. I cannot wait to be able to share a musical experience with y’all soon. Be well. Be safe.”
The tour was scheduled to kick off on January 12 in Clearwater Florida and run through Feb. 10 in San Diego.
UPDATE: Jon Foreman also announced the tour cancellation on his Instagram page. His message was similarly cryptic. Just like Phillip, he gives no specific reason for the cancellation, except to call the situation regrettable, but the cancellation the right thing to do.
I wonder if ticket sales were poor, and they decided to pull out before incurring a bigger loss…

Phillip DID cancel tour dates in the middle of a 2013 college tour
Phillips memory is good. In 2013, he did indeed cancel tour dates. At the time, the singer-songwriter was in the midst of a college tour, and had to cancel the last 9 scheduled dates on the run. A source told Hollywood Reporter. “His doctor said he has to get off the road. He was playing six shows a week, and it’s too much for him. His body doesn’t bounce back, and he’s been feeling run-down.”
Phillip won Idol the prior year and suffered from kidney stones through the entire competition. He underwent surgery afterward. But since 2013, Phillip has been seemingly in good health.
