American Idol season 10 alum Pia Toscano delivered a powerful National Anthem ahead of the PBS National Memorial Day concert on Sunday (May 29).
Since competing on the show, Pia has sung plenty of National Anthems, most notably for Los Angeles Kings NHL hockey games. In fact, she performed the Anthem for the PBS special in 2011 right after her run on American Idol. Back then, she sang it a cappella.
Notice the ease in which she delivers the notoriously difficult song. She performs the Star Spangled banner, accompanied by Jack Everly and the National Symphony Orchestra, as if it were second nature.
The National Memorial Day Concert, a yearly tradition on PBS, honors those who have given their lives in service to the United States. Hosts Gary Sinise and Joe Mantegna introduced Pia as “the proud granddaughter of a US Marine.”
Pia Toscano sings National Anthem – National Memorial Day Concert
Pia recently finished the latest leg of the Hitman tour with David Foster and Katharine McPhee. What’s more, the singer just released her first single in six years, titled “I’m Good.”
“It has been 6 years since I have released original music & I am so grateful for those who have stuck it out with me.” Piat wrote on Instagram the day the song dropped. “Being an independent artist is not for the faint of art, being any type of artist isn’t. But music will always be the greatest medicine & I don’t want to stop sharing my heart just because sometimes the risk is greater than the reward. #ImGood is for anyone that has struggled with their self worth but came out of it stronger & more resilient. I hope this song makes you feel good, empowered & on your way to healing.”
