Season 18 will feature at least SEVEN Golden Buzzers. However, this week-there was NO GOLDEN BUZZER.

And a reminder: Next Tuesday is July 4, an American holiday. The Macy’s Fireworks Spectacular will air in the time slot. AGT will return on July 11.

Simon is still having problems with his voice. At one point the tech staff fix him up with a tablet loaded with his favorite expressions. Hilarity ensued. Or not.

Sharpe Family Singers – Singing group

Fans may remember Samantha from her American Idol audition a few seasons ago. Now, her family is auditioning together on AGT. They already have a big presence on social media. They perform “How Far I’ll Go.” On American Idol, the family joined Samantha in front of the judges to sing “Into the Unknown” so I guess Disney is their thing. Great harmonies but they are squeaky squeaky clean. My teeth hurt after listening to that.

“You guys don’t even look real!” says Sofia. Howie usually hates Broadway, but he likes this family. Heidi says, “You guys are living my dream.” None of her kids inherited Seal’s talent? Simon says, through Sofia, “It’s very apple pie.” 4 yeses

Adrian Stoica and Hurricane – Dog act

Now, Simon is speaking with the help of a tablet rigged with a bunch of his favorite sayings. Adrian, from Italy, works with a cute little doggo called Hurricane. In the act, Hurricane drags him out of bed and bothers him while he tries to watch TV. It’s a story with props and tricks. Very adorable.

Heidi calls him a “good actor.” Sofia says, “She was so happy the whole time. I thought she was amazing.” Howie calls it one of his favorite dog acts. Speaking through his contraption Simon says, “This for me was one of my favorite auditions.” – 4 yeses.

Chen Lei – Acrobat

He was born in China but recently moved to Las Vegas. He’s working in “restaurant delivery.” He’s hoping AGT will launch his career. Chen performs a hand balancing act on a structure that he builds with rods. He goes higher and higher as the routine proceeds. The rods seem really rickety! He dives into a split, but held up by wobbly metal rods. The act is simple, but has an air of danger.

Howie thinks his tricks are unique. To Heidi, the act seems inhumanly possible. Sofia loved it. “It’s the most fun I’ve had tonight.” Simon says, “This was I think on another level. It was one of my favorite performances.” 4 yeses

Trailer Flowers – Country singing duo

Jack and Brooke are a country singing duo. Brooke’s grandfather died last year, and AGT was his favorite show. They live in Nashville, but hope to kickstart their career on the show. They perform a cover of Luke Bryan’s “Country GIrl.” Unimpressed, Simon signals that he wants a second song. This happened last week. AGT needs new shtick. Of course they sing an original song, a heartfelt ballad, that thrills the audience. Do the producers instruct acts to stink up the joint first so Simon can ask for the real song?

Howie didn’t really like them. The crowd boos. “You’re very good…great is what we’re looking for.” Heidi compliments their harmonies and compares their friendship to her and Sofia. Simon “says” that “People are going to like you a lot.” 3 yeses Howie says no.

Erica Coffelt – Viral dancer

Erica is a “self taught” dancer. The 36 year old mom from Reno, Nevada is viral on social media. She’s a speech pathologist by day. Her act is basically a bunch of goofy made up hip hop moves. It’s supposed to be funny, I guess. She’s very…enthusiastic. As the crowd roars, Erica becomes emotional. “This has always been my dream.”

“You’re surprisingly very good,” says Sofia. Simon says, “You’re what this show is all about.” One of his favorite stock phrases! Heidi says, “You leave me wanting more.” Howie says, “The joy of your hip hop dance is contagious.

Ryland – Kid Magician

Ten year old Ryland is a child magician who made it to the semi finals of Season 15 of Britain’s Got Talent in 2022. He’s been practicing magic since 2 years old. He invites a bunch of “friends” to join him on stage. They are helpers! The act involves matching up numbers and photos with photos given to the judges at the beginning of the bit. Not only that, his helpers are able to match with the judges. And something Ryland filmed earlier also matches, as if the young magician saw into the future.

Heidi calls him incredible, while Howie calls Ryland funny and talented. Sofia says, “That was so much fun for us.” Simon liked it so much, that he’s able to speak. “You really have magic powers,” he says. “Skip school, go straight to Vegas.” Simon doesn’t let on that he knows him already. 4 yeses

M – Comedians

Simon’s voice has returned. Fully. Two guys wearing whIte horror masks play piano and dance goofily to Terry Crews favorite song from White Chicks “A Thousand Miles.” They get buzzed. And that’s the end.

Howie says, “I was waiting for something.” Sofia liked it. Sofia says yes, the rest says no. Kinda surprised, but these guys got a video. I’m on team Sofia. The bit was pointless but funny.

Barry Brewer Jr. – Singer/Comedian

NBC previewed Barry’s audition earlier today. He tore his achilles before his audition, so he’s hobbling on crutches. The comic combines jokes with musical performances. He started his music and comedy career in church. At first, he accompanies himself while he tells a few jokes. But then the piano becomes key as he humorously compares white church to Black church. He’s funny, but not a newbie. He’s appeared on BET and filmed a comedy special available to stream.

Sofia liked the comedy/music combo. Howie calls him likeable and charming. Heidi says “I didn’t want it to end.” Simon says, “You’re really funny and a different kind of comedy.” Barry hopes to do stand up comedy at the “highest level possible.” 4 yeses

Justin Jackson – Tap dancer

Justin is a tap dancer from Montreal Canada. His act is blend of hip hop and tap. He’s got swag. Previously, he appeared on Season 2 of SYTYCD Canada, but didn’t make the top 20. After dancing on stage, he moves to a raised platform in front of the judges and dances some more. Everybody gets out of their seats. Justin becomes emotional.

Sofia says, “You make tap dancing sexy, modern and funny.” Howie calls him lovable and entertaining. Heidi says, “We need to see more of you.” Simon calls him “really really special.” He thinks great things are going to happen in his life. “Masterclass.” 4 yeses

Ryan Hayashi – Magician

Heidi and Terry help Ryan with a card trick that involves coins. Simon called it boring, while Howie thought it lacked showmanship. Only Heidi said yes. – 1 yes 3 nos

Sangsoon Kim – Magician

NBC previewed this audition last week. Sangsoon jokes that he knew he was good enough to audition for AGT because he’s better than his pal and alum Yu Hojin. His act involves changing the colors and looks of athletic shoes. The act has rhythm and energy. Excellent presentation and a unique premise. He finishes by tossing his hat.

Simon says he’s the opposite of the boring magician who was on before. “You are brilliant.” Sofia says, “Your magic feels fresh.” Heidi says, “I can’t wait to go home and push play…I loved it.” Howie says, “You were original.” Howie ended up with the hat he tossed. “I want to vote because the shoe must go on.” Hardy har! – 4 yeses

Lachune – Singer

Lachune has a Bachelors of Music from North Greenville University and a Masters of Music from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She teaches music and currently lives in Fort Worth Texas. She explains that a lack of confidence held her back from performing. She sings Coldplay’s “Yellow” and is a solid vocalist even without big moments in the song.

The crowd gives her a standing ovation. Simon says, “You have a beautiful voice….now you have to work out ‘what is my lane?’. It was a fantastic audition.” Sofia says, “I wanted to keep listening to you.” Heidi thinks she’s “scratching the surface” of what she can do. Howie says, “Your life is about to change.” – 4 yeses
