Britain’s Got Talent 2024: Singer Sydnie Christmas Crowned the Winner

On Sunday (June 2) the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2024 was revealed on the live final results show.

Singer Sydnie Christmas, who worked as a gym receptionist, nabbed the most viewer votes, winning a £250,000 cash prize and a place on the Royal Variety Performance later this year. She became emotional as hosts Ant and Dec crowned her the winner.

She won after singing an impressive version of that stalwart singing show staple, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” As far as the song choice is concerned, Sydnie told ITV’s This Morning, “BGT helped me and when they said that version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” I was like, ‘I can’t do that’ because that’s Loren Allred’s version and she is my idol. Loren competed on BGT previously and on America’s Got Talent last summer.

“Obviously, you put your own kiss on it and your own way. Loren was so supportive, I got a video from Loren and I sobbed, this is a ride I don’t want to get off of.”

The singer added that she “can’t wait” to perform at the Royal Variety Performance for the King Charles but said she has “not a clue” what the future holds.

Nuclear engineer and magician Jack Rhodes, who put on a “lie detector” hat during his routine, was told by Simon Cowell that he had a chance to win, but ended up as BGT’s runner-up.

Ghanaian dancing duo Abigail and Afronitaaa, who were told the “entire audience” had fallen in love with them, ended up in third place. They performed to a medley of songs, which included popular Afrobeats track Antenna by Fuse ODG.

The Britain’s Got Talent 2024 Top 11 finished in the following order (with voting percentages):

  1. Sydnie Christmas (Singer) – 27.2%
  2. Jack Rhodes (Magician) – 15.8%
  3. Abigail & Afronitaaa (Dancers) – 10.4%
  4. Innocent Massuki (Singer) – 8.8%
  5. The Trickstars (Dancing Dog act) – 8.4%

  9. Northants Sings Out (Choir) – 4.9%
  10. Sslaubi Performance Troupe – 4.8%
  11. Haribow (Double Dutch group) – 3.1%

Sunday night’s finale featured The top 10 acts from the semi-finals, plus an extra wild card, fight head to head for the win.

In the final, viewers at home had full control of the voting. The panel – Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli, Alesha Dixon, and Simon Cowell – critiqued each performance but had no say in the results.
