A familiar face strode onstage on the Saturday April 16 edition of Britain’s Got Talent. Loren Allred who competed on The Voice season 3, and then went on to record “Never Enough,” the ubiquitous song from The Greatest Showman, travelled across the pond to give BGT a shot. She even performed “Never Enough” for her audition, earning herself a Golden Buzzer.
Judge Simon Cowell acted like he didn’t know the singer and then feigned surprise when she explained her story. Those who follow Simon’s shows Britain’s Got Talent and America’s Got Talent know that he LOVES LOVES LOVES The Greatest Showman. In the years since the movie premiered in 2017, songs such as “Never Enough” and “This Is Me” have become staples on singing shows.
After recording a hit song, duetting with Michael Buble for a track on his Love album, touring with Andrea Bocelli and David Foster and more, why would Loren return to the world of television competition shows?
She gives the “20 steps from stardom” excuse. “I was more comfortable singing behind the scenes,” she explains to the panel, which includes Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliams. She adds that she’s ready to put a face to the song, which was lip synced by actress Rebecca Ferguson in the movie. Do people actually assume that Ferguson recorded the song?
Has a recording artist ever competed on a competition show performing their hit song? Loren’s presence on BGT gives the “ringer” contestant a whole new dimension.
After Loren kills the song, Amanda Holden Hits her Golden Buzzer
Spoiler alert: Loren kills the performance that features soaring high notes interspersed with soft and vulnerable moments. She’s a pro y’all. She knows how to deliver a song and win over an audience. The performance is followed by a slo-mo standing ovation. Poor little Loren has never known acclaim like this. Right.
And then Amanda hits her buzzer, while Simon puts on his shocked face. “I’m absolutely shaking,” says Amanda. “I can’t believe I’ve had this incredible opportunity to give you your moment to shine.” Simon added, “Seeing somebody else sing that song in that movie and not have the recognition of doing one of the most incredible vocals ever. And now, for you to reveal yourself to the world–it was actually one of the most incredible audition moments I’ve ever experienced.”
The Golden Buzzer allows Loren to advance straight into the live shows.
Loren competed on The Voice season 3 in 2012
The Voice fans may remember Loren when she competed on season 3 in the fall of 2012. She performed David Guetta’s “When Love Takes Over,” earning chair turns from Ceelo Green and Adam Levine. She chose Team Adam. Eventually, the singer left the competition after The Playoff round.
Because of Loren’s “Never Enough” success, The Voice re-uploaded her Blind Audition to Youtube as part of the show’s 10 year anniversary celebration. Yes, many folks know that Loren is the voice behind “Never Enough.”
