It’s been a minute since Carly Rae Jepsen hit it big with the ubiquitous summer hit, “Call Me Maybe.” The pop singer and Canadian Idol alum has finally dropped a new single, and it only took her two-and-a-half years…
“I Really Like You,” the first single from her next album, was released to iTunes and other digital outlets Sunday night. “I really really really really really REALLY like you,” the lyrics go. To make sure you don’t miss her point–SIX REALLYS IN A ROW OK. By Billboard’s calculations, that’s 67 total. Whew. Admittedly, the song is pretty earwormy and has the potential to fly up the charts. If it does, the burnout rate might be pretty fast. Just saying.
In a recent chat with the magazine, manager Scooter Braun, explained why it took so long for a new single: “I told her that she couldn’t come out with anything unless it was on the level of ‘Call Me Maybe.’ And, now we have a new one that is on that level.”
“Lyrically, it’s about that time in a relationship when it’s too soon to say ‘I love you,’ but you’re well past, ‘I like you’ and you’re at the ‘I really, really like you’ stage,” said Carly, in a press release. It’s the SIX really stage of I like you.
A music video was filmed last month in New York City with Justin Bieber and Tom Hanks. A premiere announcement is coming soon. Carly will perform “I Really Like You” on Good Morning America on Monday (Mar. 2) and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Mar. 5.
