The Voice 3 winner Cassadee Pope drops wild new “Almost There” music video

Cassadee Pope drops her second single, “Almost There” as a fully returned pop/punk artist following her most recent single, “People That I Love Leave.”

The Voice season 3 winner releases a ballad, featuring all the emo emotions found in songs by aught era artists like No Doubt or Avril Lavigne.

Speaking on the meaning behind “Almost There” with Rock Sound magazine Cassadee said: “I think a lot of us are taught from an early age that indulging our desires is shameful and not ladylike. It was only when I started to shed that shame and embrace my sensual nature that I began feeling like myself. For this song, I wanted to let people see a side of me they haven’t seen before and validate them in their own desires.”

“My history in country music as a songwriter has helped me tremendously in this new chapter”

In the Rock Sound interview, Cassadee shares that working for 10 years as a country artist in Nashville has made her a better storyteller. “My history in country music as a songwriter has helped me tremendously in this new chapter because I have a new sense of myself in songwriting,” she added, “Bringing that into the pop punk writing sessions has been really cool.” Although her musical style has gone back to her early roots, she’s “still telling stories which is something I’ve really learned to do since being here in Nashville.”

“The progression has definitely been natural,” she says.

The singer explains that she’s been “kind of inching toward” her punk pop roots, “the past couple of years.” Her 2021 album Thrive is a blend of pop and country. However, she didn’t feel satisfied with the result. “While I’m really proud of that record, it didn’t quite translate and it didn’t land the way that I wanted it to.” She continued, “I started thinking about it and my heart wanted to go back to rock music.”

Currently, she’s working on an album and writing for other artists.
