Carrie Underwood reflects on feeling ‘alone,’ explains why she stays away from politics -“I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.” She cites as an example the reaction to her recent single The Bullet, which looked at the long-running emotional impact of a shooting death. “Immediately people said ‘Oh you have a song about gun control!’” she sighs. “It was more about the lives that were changed by something terrible happening. And it does kind of bug me when people take a song, or take something I said and try to pigeonhole or force me to pick a side or something. It’s a discussion – a long discussion.” – Read more at The Guardian

How Songland’s Shane McAnally Went from Homeless to Country’s Hottest Hitmaker – Before he became one of Nashville’s biggest behind-the-scenes player, Shane McAnally was struggling to make ends meet. “We met at a pool,” recalls McAnally, 44, who was struggling with his sexuality at the time. “I thought it would just be a weekend hookup.” But the pair (McAnally in L.A., Baum in Atlanta) began dating long-distance, and the songwriter slowly started coming out. “I remember the first time I ever got asked to do an artist trip where you get on the bus with a big artist. It was Luke Bryan,” McAnally recalls. “I was so, like, ‘Does he know that I’m gay? He wants me to do this?’ I remember someone in our office that was setting it up just being like, ‘I don’t know. Should I tell him?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know.’ So there was still a hangover of that. But he never said anything — we’re friends!” – Read more at People
