Chris Daughtry and his band sign with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records
Chris Daughtry’s and his eponymous band Daughtry is kicking off a new era as they announce their signing with Big Machine Records on Monday (Aug 7). The group has also launched a pre-save for their forthcoming single, “Artificial,” out everywhere on 8/11.
“Chris Daughtry is one of the best voices in rock music, hands down,” says Big Machine Label Group Chairman and CEO Scott Borchetta. “He is attacking this season of life full-on with a renewed fire and intensity to everything he touches.”
Borchetta served as American Idol mentor for seasons 14 and 15 (2015-2016)

“I am so thrilled to be working with Scott and the entire Big Machine crew on this next record and beyond,” shares Daughtry frontman and American Idol season 5 alum Chris Daughtry. “It’s very refreshing and exciting to have a team behind me that fully believes and supports my vision.”
The news follows the rock outfit’s announcement of their Bare Bones Tour, plotting a rare acoustic run with 26 new US dates launching on 8/9. Alongside Billboard chart-topping rocker Ayron Jones, who is set to open on select stops, the upcoming performances mark a unique opportunity to highlight the stars’ powerhouse musical versatility and vocal prowess in the most intimate of settings.
Daughtry partnered with Big Machine Records to release the Lzzy Hale duet, “Separate Ways (World’s Apart)”
Coming in hot off the recent success with their Lzzy Hale duet, “Separate Ways (World’s Apart),” Daughtry’s amped-up reimagining of the Journey classic debuted at No. 1 on iTunes’ All Genres chart and reached No. 6 on Mediabase’s Active Rock chart. True to its roots with an updated grit, the single has racked up millions of streams across platforms.
Daughtry’s relationship with Big Machine Records appears ongoing, as the Lzzy Hale duet was released by BMR in partnership with Daughtry’s indie label, Dogtree Records. The partnership likely helped the track earn spins on active rock radio.
Chris has been teasing the single on his socials, posting articles and blurbs on artificial intelligence. The track may be a warning of what’s to come as tech becomes more and more invasive and sophisticated.
Daughtry went independent after many years with RCA/19R
The singer formed Daughtry shortly after the end of his American Idol season in 2006. He signed a deal with RCA Records/19Records, under which he released five studio album, the last being Cage to Rattle in 2018.
After the band and RCA parted ways, they went on to release Dearly Beloved in 2021 on their independent Dogtree Record label. In interviews, Chris shared that the band began trying too hard for radio hits. The band lost their way musically. But once they took reins, Daughtry got back to producing rock music without the frills. Apparently, Big Machine shares Daughtry’s vision of authenticity and staying true to their roots.
