Today’s thread is brought to you by the numbers 2 and 313K.
Billie Eilish scores the number one album of the week with “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?”. The album has 313K in equivalent album sales and 170K in traditional sales (second largest of the year).
Over on the Hot 100, Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” becomes the new chart topper. This song about the video game “Red Dead Redemption 2”. The song was released last year and Lil Nas listed it with streaming services as a Country song (figuring it would be easier to top those charts than the more busy hiphop/rap charts). He then started working the memes and it was picked as up by TikTok users as part of the “Yeehaw Challenge” meme. Seriously, I’m not making this stuff up. The song got even more news when Billboard removed the song from the Country charts and then Billy Ray Cyrus got lent is voice to a re-mix to get it back on there. Anyway, all this hustle worked and Lil Nas X now has the number one song of the week. “Old Town Road” was released independently and now Lil Was X has been signed to a label.
Lukas Graham’s “Love Someone” which he performed with Dimitrius last night entered the top 100 on iTunes shortly thereafter and is now sitting in the top 10. His “7 Years” duet with Eddie Island was also boosted back into the top 100 and is sitting at 27th. “Wicked Games” by Chris Isaak vaulted into the charts and is 21st. Julia Michaels’ “What a Time” duet with Logan resulted in him going home and the song currently being at 33rd while “Issues” (Alyssa duet) is at 59th. “Broken” which lovelytheband dusted with Wade on is 39th.
From Sunday, Brett Young’s “Mercy” is 11th and “Like I Loved You” (Riley) is 52nd. “Have It All” (Walker) by Jason Mraz is 41st and “I’m Yours” (Ashley) is 58th. Shaggy’s “Angel” (Bumbly) is 100th.
