Hey Everyone :)
We are back to Monday’s! Welcome to the next installment of Dancing with the Stars. It is “Disney Night,” or as ABC executives like to call it… the night we make a load of money promoting our movies and streaming service. Corporate synergy for the win! I kid…somewhat. The wonderful world of Disney will fill the ballroom with magical routines based on your favorite past and present Disney movies.
Last week, we lost Charles & Emma, and Carole & Pasha joined them in the bottom two. It was pretty much the perfect bottom and either one could have been booted. Unless Carole’s fans vote hard tonight, I suspect she will once again find herself in danger and I doubt the judges will save her over anyone else. Chrishell, though she did better last week, could find herself in trouble this evening.
We are still at that early stage of the competition where we don’t quite know how strong a fan base each pairing has, so an unexpected bottom appearance by a higher scoring couple isn’t out of the question. Some stars who faltered last week, such as Skai and Monica could use a good night. Others who shined, such as Kaitlyn, Nev, and Justina will look to keep the momentum going.
I will include voting details under each performance review but remember, you can begin voting as soon as the show begins and ends during the final commercial break before elimination. Aww. Everyone looks incredible in their Disney costumes. Tyra says since we can’t go to Disneyland, the show is bringing it to us. Here we go…
Skai Jackson & Alan – Jive
Oh, so much better than last week by way of no messing up. Whew. A fun routine, certainly worthy of better scores. Some nice kicks and flicks and a good high energy. A couple of moments of unsteadiness and Skai lost the musicality just a little bit but all in all, it was fast, happy, and a job well done. I think Skai will feel very relieved after that.
Derek says Skai looks like a princess. He isn’t thrilled with this performance- her weight was far back so she looked stiff. Bruno says it was difficult. He tells her not to be so tight. But says she did very well. Carrie Ann feels she looked nervous in the beginning. She feels shed did get back on track.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Bruno- 6 = 18/30
Monica Aldama & Val – Viennese Waltz
I definitely see a pattern with Monica. She is better at slow ballroom dances like this as opposed to faster ones like the jive last week. She will need to sort that out because she has to do well with everything. This was quite elegant, lovingly flowy throughout, with some decent in-hold work. A step up from last week and a very pleasant to watch routine.
Bruno loved the confidence. He tells her to be careful not to lose her posture. Carrie Ann says she was like a different person on the dance floor. She tells her in hold- stay close to Val. Derek calls it beautiful but tells her to watch the feet.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 21/30
Justina Machado & Sasha – Charleston
A lot of fun. Very cute and appropriate choreography for a swinging charleston. I wasn’t over the moon about the section that they were on the floor for. But I know Sasha loves to change things up sometimes so it is a matter of personal taste. But a very fun number, perfect for the theme and dance style.
Carrie Ann loves the way they match one another- sharp and clean. She notes it could have used a little more energy. Derek wanted more energy and sharper footwork for a charleston. Bruno calls her sweetly delicious. He says that some lovely slapstick was there but needed to be sharper.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 6, Bruno- 6 = 19/30
AJ McLean & Cheryl – Quickstep
AJ’s best dance of the season for sure. I love how committed he was to the character. A fast paced quickstep with some nice footwork. I wanted to push him bum in parts because it needed to be tucked a bit more but all in all, he should be really happy with that overall. A standout so far tonight.
Derek says AJ puts a smile on his face. He compliments his frame but tells him to keep refining that. Bruno loved it and marveled that he kept the quickstep going. Carrie Ann enjoyed that he put his own spin on it. She cautions him on his elbow.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 21/30
Anne Heche & Keo – Quickstep
Loving Anne’s energy here. She, like AJ, totally committed to that character. A little frenetic in parts, especially when not in hold, but I can see why. It is easy to get a bit carried away when moving around so quickly. Footwork from what I could see considering the long dress was decent. So, good routine.
Brun
o thought they didn’t get on so well in terms of the fighting but very entertaining. Carrie Ann loved the start but then they lost control. She feels like were doing different choreography. PLUS- LIFT POLICE AT THE BEGINNING. Derek wants Anne to learn the routine by herself first before Keo comes in. He loves the commitment.Carrie Ann- 5, Derek- 5, Bruno- 5 = 15/30
Yikes. Thought that was a little harsh. And you are telling me Carrie Ann deducted a point for a lift so her score would have been 4? Ouch.
Jeannie Mai & Brandon – Viennese Waltz
That was a tough routine. The music was very passive so Brandon had to really choreograph well to show Jeannie off. And I thought he did. It was quite sweet and romantic. The balloons could honestly go for me but that’s par for the course with Disney. A very solid job here and a nice dance.
Carrie A
nn loved her as a little old lady. She tells her to watch her lines when she turns. Derek calls it beautiful. He applauded her frame but agrees with Carrie Ann on the turns. Bruno loved the acting and dancing coming together.Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 8 = 22/30
Nelly & Daniella – Foxtrot
Aww. Nelly is jus someone you want to root for so hard. He is an ok dancer and you could tell he works hard. I haven’t really seen a great dance from his yet, including this. A little lack of musicality here, some hold problems there but he did have a nice section where he and Daniella were apart. He is improving, though in a very small way. I am just rooting for him to do better.
Derek says he did good in his first ballroom dance. He tells him he got a little ahead of the music. Bruno calls him charming. He saw a proper slow foxtrot but beware of the shoulders. Carrie Ann says he is very enjoyable to watch but tells him he needs a breakout. She calls it a little safe.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Bruno- 6 = 18/30
Carole Baskin & Pasha – Samba
I wonder how many more dance themes and songs they can use on this show that has to with cats and lions. LOL. Oh boy. That may have been the slowest, most safe samba I have ever seen. At parts, it felt as though Carole was just strolling around. I get it- she doesn’t have much dance talent but come on… this was something that was really amateur, even for an amateur. Love the costumes though!
Bruno has never seen a samba like that. He said she just walked through it. Carrie Ann tells her she looks beautiful. She compliments her hands and says the samba was lacking everything else. Derek thanks her for loving big cats. He agrees the dancing needs work.
Carrie Ann- 5, Derek- 4, Bruno- 3 = 12/30
Kaitlyn Bristowe & Artem – Rumba
Artem loves putting Kait through turns LOL. That was really lovely. I saw some good hip movement for a rumba though I did want a little more. But she is very elegant and flowy out there with some beautiful lines. Kait has real potential here to go the distance. What’s up with the ladies from the Bachelorette franchise killing it two seasons in a row now?
Carrie Ann says it w
as the best dance of the night. She was elated watching it. Derek disagrees a bit because he wanted more rumba with the heels. But he calls her a beautiful dancer. Bruno calls it wonderful.Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 8 = 23/30
Vernon Davis & Peta – Quickstep
TUCK THAT BUM. He really needs to because aside from that, this was a very good quickstep. I appreciate the footwork I saw here. And Peta really made it fun with the theme. I think this could be Vernons strongest overall dance. I just hope Peta coaches him more on what to do in hold because there way way too much space between them while together. TUCK THE BUM.
Derek says he radiates joy and energy. He noticed some foot fumbles. Bruno says Peta tamed the beast. He exuded light and easy action. Carrie Ann is amazed that they have found a balance in the partnership. One of her favorite dances of the night.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 22/30
Nev Schulman & Jenna
211; Argentine TangoWOW. Impressive. A really good mix of dance technique and acting. That’s really what you look for on a Disney themed night. Very much in character. I love the fancy footwork of an argentine tango. I am interested in seeing what Derek says because he is the king of doing these when he was on the show and he knows what looks passable. I thought it was a really solid number.
Bruno calls it a hit. He loved the acting and the dancing. Carrie Ann loved how they went in and out of character. Derek says now we are cooking with some hot sauce. He compliments the technique.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30
Johnny Weir & Britt – Rumba
Being a lyrical figure skater definitely made this Johnny’s sweet spot dance. So elegant and flowy. About what you would expect him to do on ice. Loved how in tune he was with Britt as well. Probably my favorite Johnny dance since the beginning. I expect a lot of this dude all things considered and I have been underwhelmed overall until this evening.
Carrie Ann believes in Johnny so much and saw him making the transition. She wants him to think up instead of down. Derek calls it beautiful. Bruno compliments the shapes and extensions and he saw emotion. He loved that he wasn’t all closed in.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30
