First Dancing with the Stars season 29 Promo is OUT

Dancing with the Stars season 29 is premiering in the fall, but with a lot of changes. Check out the first promo of the season right here. The big change is supermodel Tyra Banks taking over as host from Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews. Tom had been with the show since season 1. To say that his ouster was a shock would be an understatement.

Tyra is also credited as an executive producer. Fun facts: Hosts Carson Daly and Nick Cannon ALSO have executive producer credits on their shows, The Voice and The Masked Singer respectively. It’s probably more of a money thing than a decision making thing for them.

But in Tyra’s case, ABC is making a big deal out of her new role, as if she were taking over the whole shebang. Apparently, she’ll be co-producing with DWTS veteran Andrew Llinares. She’s been teasing changes, but not really spilling anything. One thing she did say–that DWTS would be a show that teens and grandmas would watch together. Grandmas are already watching. The teens? Not so much. I suspect that bringing Tyra on board is about attracting a younger overall audience.

As far as the judges are concerned, Carrie Ann Inaba claims that she, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli are all returning to the panel. But color me skeptical that 80 year old Len is going to risk his health by making a trip to Covid-infested Southern California from his home in the UK. There are already rumors that it probably won’t happen. It may not mean anything, but Bruno is the only judge featured in the clip. Hm.

Dancing with the Stars rehearsals set to begin in September, ABC hopes to air show live

Also, according to Entertainment Tonight, Dancing with the Stars is set to begin production “very soon.” A source told ET that rehearsals are scheduled to start in September. But due to coronavirus concerns, it’s possible that the date could be moved around if new issues arise or safety protocols change in Los Angeles.

Additionally, ET reports that producers are hoping to air the show live, while taking every precaution and with safety guidelines in place. Nothing is set in stone at this time, as production is taking things “day by day.” NOTE: Covid cases and deaths were climbing in California, but seem to be leveling off. So far this summer, coronavirus concerns have not affected film production. But, anything could happen.

Pro dancer Derek Hough returning to Dancing with the Stars?

Also, there is a crazy rumor that Derek Hough may come back as a pro. That would be quite the coup. My theory about the show’s low ratings for the last several seasons: The pro dancers are the real stars, and as favorites like Derek and Julianne Hough, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Peta Murgatroyd, Mark Ballas, Cheryl Burke, Tony Dovolani and more left the show, viewers drifted off. Lindsay Arnold and Witney Carson are both for sure out this season due to pregnancies.

In any case, bringing back a fan favorite pro would be a good thing. But would Derek’s contract with NBC’s World of Dance allow him to cross back over to ABC for DWTS?
