Season 32 of Dancing With The Stars continues tonight with Motown Night! After last week’s shocking elimination of Jamie Lynn Spears and pro dancer Alan Bersten, twelve couples remain.

For the special classic night, Good Morning America co-anchor Michael Strahan will join Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli on the judges panel as a guest. Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro co-host.
Vote live during the show at dwtsvote.abc.com or text FIRST NAME to 21523.
The show kicks off with an opening number to “Dancing In the Street” by Martha Reeves & The Vandellas, choreographed by Jamal Sims, with partner dances including the Cha Cha, Foxtrot, Jive, Quickstep, Rumba or Tango.
Barry Williams & Peta Murgatroyd – Tango – “Get Ready” by The Temptations
Back in the day the Bradys got to meet the Jackson 5. Barry is a big fan of the music. The 70’s TV star is the cheesemeister. A flat-footed cheesemeister, however. All that pointy pose dancing in his youth didn’t seem to help him much. But then, the guy is in his late 60s (GULP).
Derek says, “You’re winning over the audience.” He complimented Barry’s timing. Michael says, “You took control.” Bruno says, “No mistakes at all. It was strong, it was powerful.” Carrie Ann loves the way he sparkles. She points out a few mistakes. Barry got some bad scores last week and was determined to do better.
In the skybox, he mentions Brady mom, the late Florence Henderson, a former contestant who encouraged him to do the show.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Mike – 7, Bruno- 6 = 25/40
Lele Pons & Brandon Armstrong – Cha Cha – “Super Freak” by Rick James
The two came in at No. 2 on last week’s leaderboard and want to stay there, But Brandon explains that the Cha Cha, a technical dance, can be difficult. The pro plays a nerd to Lele’s wild girl. She’s not shy about shaking her thang. She dances with confidence.
Michael says “Sexy, strong, smooth, aggressive.” Bruno says, “You sell it, I buy it.” He notes two moments where she lost balance. Carrie Ann says to be careful to protect her core strength. She goes a little too wild, in other words. Derek could feel her nerves and feels she was off balance and not at her best.
Lele understands the criticism. She’s not mad.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 6, Mike – 7, Bruno- 7 = 27/40
Mauricio Umansky & Emma Slater – Foxtrot – “Working My Way Back to You” by The Spinners
Mauricio made big mistakes last week. He felt terrible. But it’s a new week! He’s working hard on holding the correct frame. But maybe TOO hard? He looks like he’s thinking a lot about his steps. Loosen up dude!
Bruno says, “Mauricio is back on track! You kept your frame. You had a pole down your back” Carrie Ann, “That was amazing, you are very smooth. Elegance, swave.” Derek says, “That was so much better than last week.” Michael says, “It’s so hard to get out of your own head. You did it masterfully tonight.”
Ohh some boos from the audience after Derek and Bruno’s lowish scores.
Carrie Ann- 7, Derek- 5, Mike – 6, Bruno- 5 = 23/40
Jason Mraz & Daniella Karagach – Jive to “Do You Love Me” – The Contours
Jason tied for first place on the leaderboard last week. He grew up listening to Motown. The two begin at either end of the judges table. Jason is really hammy, but in a good way. He’s having a blast up there, doing cartwheels.
Carrie Ann says, “I can’t believe what transformation I’m seeing. That was brilliant, fire.” Derek calls his face a “real life emoji” and “such a fantastic jive.” Michael says, “It’s all natural. You’re having so much fun.” Bruno calls it a “fun filled jive.”
HIGH SCORE!
Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 8, Mike – 9, Bruno- 8 = 34/40
Alyson Hannigan & Sasha Farber – Foxtrot – Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
Alyson’s kids visit rehearsal. Props! The routine begins in a canoe Kind of literal. Alyson looks elegant tonight. Love her hair. The Foxtrot looks simple, but dancing while holding the correct frame AND making it look effortless–neither Alyson or Mauricio managed that tonight.
Derek says, “I see the confidence growing every week.” He wasn’t crazy about the canoe. Michael says, “This was a perfect song for you.” Bruno says, “It wasn’t all smooth sailing, but you sustained the performance.” Carrie says, “The confidence is sticking.” although she agrees it wasn’t perfect.
In the skybox, Alyson reveals that she’s sick today and wasn’t sure she’d be well enough to dance.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Mike – 6, Bruno- 6 = 24/40
Tyson Beckford & Jenna Johnson – Foxtrot – “Master Blaster (Jammin’)” by Stevie Wonder
He improved by six points last week. Tyler and Stevie Wonder are neighbors! Tyson has to learn refinement–it’s his first week in frame. Jenna is taking advantage of Tyson’s athleticism, which is smart. He has swag, but still has to work on his Fred Astaire moves.
Michael says, “It wasn’t as smooth as you wanted it to be…but confident.” Bruno noticed that he stumbled a few times. Carrie calls him a “work in progress” but notes that he’s connecting with the audience. Derek says, “You need to work on the frame, but you’re having fun.”
Low scores. The crowd boos!
Carrie Ann- 5, Derek- 5, Mike – 5, Bruno- 5 = 20/40
Charity Lawson & Artem Chigvintsev – Foxtrot – “My Girl” by The Temptations
Last week, Artem was out with Covid. Now he’s back. Charity’s dad, who LOVES Motown, visits her rehearsal. Charity’s Supremes hair do is FAB. So is her dancing. It’s the best Foxtrot so far. She looks relaxed AND like she’s having fun.
Bruno says, “You’re going for Gold. A Gold standard foxtrot. You made it look easy.” Carrie Ann says, “Effortless. Gliding. You were like a princess. Pizazz.” Derek says, “Beautiful foxtrot…that was gorgeous.” Michael calls it “fluid” and “soothing. You were meant to dance.”
It’s her best scores of the season.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Mike – 8, Bruno- 8 = 32/40
Mira Sorvino & Gleb Savchenko – Rumba – Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye
She feels like the judges are expecting a lot from her. Gleb wants her lean into her acting for a sexy rumba. She’s not shy about turning on the vibez, even if she’s not entirely comfortable on the dance floor. The audience are on their feet.
Carrie Ann didn’t feel Mira sustained the character “It keeps dipping in and out.” Derek says, “All the mechanics are there.” She needs more focus and energy, he says. “You have everything that it takes.” Michael calls it sexy and seductive. Bruno says, “You teased me. But I liked it. You played it your way.” Bruno practically jumped into Michael’s lap!
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 6, Mike – 7, Bruno- 7 = 26/40
Ariana Madix & Pasha Pashkov – Quickstep – You Can’t Hurry Love by The Supremes
Her father passed before she became famous. She dedicates the dance to him. Her cheating ex-boyfriend, Tom Sandoval, got booted off of The Masked Singer last week. Anyway, the quickstep is deceptively hard, but Ariana is gliding effortlessly across the floor.
Derek says, “Your dad would be proud. Fantastic. Effortless…stunning.” Michael says, “You used the entire floor. You loved every step that you took.” Bruno calls it a “sparkling performance.” He loves the classic Hollywood style. Carrie Ann runs up to give her a hug. “Amazing!”
Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 8, Mike – 9, Bruno- 8 = 34/40
Adrian Peterson & Britt Stewart – Quickstep – “I Want You Back” by The Jackson 5
Adrian was in the bottom two last week. Surprised this guy is still in it, actually. Britt is fierce. I can’t take my eyes off of her. For a big guy who could seem clunky and awkward, Adrian is holding his own.
Michael says, “I love watching you dance.” Bruno was (like me) impressed that a big guy wasn’t clunky on stage. Carrie Ann is hard on him, criticizing his frame. Derek calls it his “best dance” and compliments his infectious joy.
I thought the scores from everyone other than Carrie would be higher, based on their comments.
Carrie Ann- 5, Derek- 5, Mike – 6, Bruno- 6 = 22/40
Harry Jowsey & Rylee Arnold – Foxtrot – “Easy” by Commodores
These two are rumored to be a thing. If you believe the internets, they have become a couple. They only have eyes for each other on the dance floor. But still, Harry is an awkward dancer. He’s lead footed, clopping around the stage.
Bruno calls him charming, “You really went for it all the way through.” But felt it lacked musicality. Carrie Ann was actually “really impressed.” She’s grading him on a curve. Derek says, “You all are so cute together!” But he notes the bad frame and timing issues. Yep. Michael thought he brought his hips out of the ice age.
Julie asks a leading question: “What shifted in your relationship this week?” The couple didn’t bite. But Harry did become tongue-tied for a second.
Carrie Ann- 6, Derek- 5, Mike – 7, Bruno- 6 = 24/40
Xochitl Gomez & Val Chmerkovskiy – Foxtrot – My Guy by Mary Wells
Xochitl is really adorable and exudes personality. She sparkles! She’s also bringing elegance and refinement to the dance floor.
Carrie Ann calls her a “dynamic” performer. “Bountiful body contact.” She notes a mistake. Derek calls it “elegant, grace and charm. You are such a fantasist performer, beautiful dancer.” Michael remarks on how comfortable she looks. He calls it “refreshing…effortless.” Bruno compliments the musicality and quality of her foxtrot.
Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Mike – 8, Bruno- 8 = 32/40
