Dancing With The Stars 33 Recap: 500th Episode Live Blog and Results

DANCING WITH THE STARS – (Disney/Eric McCandless) RYLEE ARNOLD, STEPHEN NEDOROSCIK

Tonight, another round of Season 33 competition will also celebrate the 500th episode of Dancing With The Stars!

DWTS was off last week for Election Night, and the previous week’s Halloween Night showcased spooky dances that ended in the horrifying elimination of Jenn and Sasha. Tonight’s show will open with a very special group number, then the competition will begin for the six remaining couples, who will perform solo dances inspired by past DWTS performances, plus the Instant Dance Challenge.

Vote live during the show at dwtsvote.abc.com or text FIRST NAME to 21523.

Dancing with the Stars 2024 500th Episode Dance Styles, Song Choices

The show opens with a group number danced to the same song the Season 1 pros danced to in the series premiere and featured the pros, troupe, Derek and Julianne Hough, and former pro Sharna Burgess. Love the mirrorball in the shape of a 5 next to two round ones!

Joey and Jenna – Contemporary – “Work Song”

In the theme of Ryker Lynch and Allison Holker’s Contemporary, the pair start out lying on a piano and then Joey performs a beautiful, emotional piece alongside Jenna.

Bruno says the expectations are high and that it was powerful and deeply felt. Carrie Ann says he did a beautiful job but lacked a bit of rawness. Derek disagrees and says he was soft and supportive and connected.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 10, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Danny and Witney – Quickstep – “Hey Pachuco”

In the theme of Helio Castroneves and Julianne’s Quickstep, Danny and Witney had a super cool side-by-side moment literally dancing on top of their hats, though it was just slightly out of sync.

Carrie Ann calls it fantastic and says his progress has been mind-blowing despite a moment being out of sync. Derek says it was bubbly, refreshing and put a smile on his face, then critiques his frame. Bruno says he went full throttle and notes he went on the wrong foot at one point.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 27/30

Dwight and Daniella – Argentine Tango- “Santa Maria (Del Buen Ayre)”

In the theme of James Hinchcliffe and Sharna’s Argentine Tango, they at first made their height difference work with Daniella dancing on a platform, then both hit the floor and Dwight really captured the role of the dance.

Derek says it was clever and captivating. Bruno says it worked very well. Carrie Ann says they’re the most innovative and he had strength and commitment to the movement but wants to see Dwight dance more.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 26/30

Stephen and Rylee – Viennese Waltz- “Glimpse of Us”

In the theme of Charli D’Amelio and Mark’s Viennese Waltz, Stephen wasn’t quite flowy and light enough, in my opinion. Beautiful choreo though.

Bruno says he’s growing up in front of their eyes and he understands how to use the music. Carrie Ann says she never lost track of watching the dance and partnership. Derek says they saw emotional Stephen tonight and he could see the hard work he put in and he made him feel something beautiful.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 10, Bruno- 9 = 29/30

Chandler and Brandon – Argentine Tango – “Para Te”

In the theme of Kellie Pickler and Derek’s Argentine Tango, Chandler never fails with her arms, legwork, lines, everything. It always looks like it just flows out of her.

Derek says he preferred this version of the dance over his and they had a different approach and calls it slick. Bruno says he’s still breathless and they blended beauty and danger. Carrie Ann says she’s the most powerful female dancer she’s ever seen on the dance floor.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 10, Bruno- 10 = 30/30

Ilona and Alan – Quickstep – “Chuck Berry”

In the theme of Jordan Fisher and Lindsay’s Quickstep, Ilona’s take looked a bit messy at times, but it ended strong. The way they took the in-hold portion of the floor and around the judges was super unique.

Carrie Ann says it was amazing , clean and tight and it was all fantastic. Derek says she bounced back from last week. Bruno says she was dragging Alan along and she refined the footwork.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Next up is the Instant Dance Challenge, where the couples will find out their dance and song live on air and have 5 minutes to prepare.

Joey and Jenna – Instant Rumba – “Birds of a Feather”

Joey lacked Latin motion, but with 5 minutes to prepare, it was stunning. Love Jenna’s dress!

Bruno says it was steaming and critiques a heel leads. Carrie Ann says it was hard and he felt the music with his entire body. Derek says he has great musicality and notes the heel leads.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 27/30

Danny and Witney – Instant Jive – “Good Holly Miss Molly”

Danny did surprisingly well, especially for a Jive. He also needed to look to Witney for guidance and didn’t have 100% perfect kicks and flicks, but super fun dance all things considered.

Carrie Ann says he had a slow start and calls it safe and clean and good. Derek says he commends him for doing a Jive and calls it fun. Bruno says he threw everything he had into it but timing was on and off.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30

Dwight and Daniella – Instant Paso Doble – “Victorious”

Daniella slipped at one point, but regardless, Dwight really tackles every dance and does it with determination but also joy.

Derek says it was impressive but it felt a little flat with timing issues. Bruno says it’s impossible to put a Paso together so quickly. Carrie Ann says she’s proud of him for the way he carried himself and he had the spirit of the Paso.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 22/30

Stephen and Rylee – Instant Jive – “Love Is Embarrassing”

Stephen really has a knack for Jive, but still lacked musicality at times.

Bruno says it was technically better but he went wrong. Carrie Ann says it was really impressive but he has tempo issues. Derek says watching him is joyful but agrees about the timing issues.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 8, Bruno 8 = 25/30

Chandler and Brandon – Instant Cha Cha – “Apple”

Cha Cha is a great dance for Chandler. Super fun routine and Chandler always shines.

Carrie Ann says she’s owning the dance floor tonight. Derek says she ate that and left no crumbs. Bruno compliments her hips and says everything was spot-on and it was a dance of a winner.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 10, Bruno- 10 = 30/30

Ilona and Alan – Instant Salsa – “Da Dip”

Quite a few minutes issues throughout but it was a lot of fun. Ilona seemed to be a bit lost at times but Alan is a joy.

Derek says when in doubt, shake it out, and it was impressive. Bruno says the things that went right were good. Carrie Ann says it was clean and showed how far she’s come.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30
