Dancing With The Stars 33 Recap: Halloween Night Live Blog and Results

It’s about to be a spooky night on Dancing With The Stars!

After last week’s Disney Night sent Phaedra and Val home, the seven remaining couples will perform dances to Halloween hits. The last two seasons’ Halloween episodes aired on actual Halloween night, but season throws blood on the dance floor a couple of days early. Tonight will also see the return of the Dance-offs, with a spooky twist.

Dancing with the Stars 2024 Halloween Night Dance Styles, Song Choices

The show opens with a spooky group number.

Ilona and Alan – Tango – “Psycho Killer”

Ilona looks a bit lost with this Tango, but she’s great at getting into character. For a “killer” dance, she didn’t have enough attack to the steps.

Bruno says he can see she worked hard, especially on the frame, but she had to refine the footwork. Carrie Ann says she’s seeing so much growth, but she had a few balance issues. Derek says he loved it, but gives her advice on heel leads.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 24/30

Dwight and Daniella – Contemporary – “Ring Around The Rosie”

Here I thought Iman and Daniella’s Halloween dance was scary, this one just beat that! Dwight became a monster in the best way, while also really encapsulating Contemporary movements.

Carrie Ann compliments his intensity and artistry, then calls the routine spectacular. Derek stands and claps, then says it was creepy in the best possible way and calls it “a moment.” Bruno says he’s never seen him more focused than tonight and it was implemented to perfection.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Danny and Witney – Argentine Tango – “Poison”

Danny’s frame is a bit off but the snake theme is a great concept for a spooky dance.

Derek says he’s a fantastic partner to Witney, then critiques his shoulders. Bruno says it was intoxicating and he’s improved a lot, then says he went out of time a tad. Carrie Ann compliments the lifts, then disagrees about his shoulders.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Jenn and Sasha – Contemporary – “Vampire”

That intro with just Jenn and the troupe was so creepy and so in sync. When Jenn and Sasha danced together, they were so beautiful and haunting.

Bruno says she got her teeth into the performance and she was in charge of the dance. Carrie Ann compliments all her movements. Derek compliments the opening and says she was in character the whole way through.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Joey and Jenna – Argentine Tango – “Ramalama (Bang Bang)”

Okay, this was another super creepy dance. They were both so in character, while Joey nailed the steps.

Derek says he’s always in control when he dances and it had so much content, but the lifts felt a little unstable. Bruno says it was a “spine-chillingly thriller of a Tango.” Carrie Ann says he leveled up and compliments him staying in character.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 10 = 29/30

Stephen and Rylee – Contemporary – “I Ran (So Far Away)”

I do love the way Stephen incorporates his gymnastics skills into his dances. This dance also had some side-by-side choreo which is a favorite for me in a Contemporary.

Carrie Ann says this was the best dance yet as she gets on top of the judges table. Derek says it was a fantastic dance. Bruno says he found his dramatic persona and became somebody else.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Chandler and Brandon – Viennese Waltz – “Secret”

Beautiful arms, beautiful choreo, Chandler really got into the creepy character.

Bruno says everyone is totally spellbound and it captured the beauty of a classic Gothic novel. Carrie Ann says it was really strong but not perfection. Derek stands and clapped for her, then compliments her arms and calls it perfection.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 10, Bruno- 10 = 29/30

Now it’s time for the Dance-offs!

Ilona and Alan vs Dwight and Daniella – Cha Cha – “Ghostbusters”

Dwight and Daniella win points for their spookier costumes. Neither are perfecting Latin motion. Dwight is just more fun to watch.

Carrie Ann says both have come so far, Dwight started out strong and Ilona was more technically correct. Derek says Dwight did fantastic and Ilona looked beautiful and confident. Bruno compliments Ilona’s hip action, while Dwight was going for it.

The winner is Dwight and Daniella

Jenn and Sasha vs Stephen and Rylee – Salsa – “Jump In The Line”

Again, neither of them have got the Latin motion down, but Jenn has an up on Stephen when it comes to the legwork. Stephen does look like he’s going harder at it than Jenn though.

Derek says Jenn and Sasha danced the whole way through and compliments Stephen’s lifts and tricks. Bruno says Jenn got the hips working and compliments Stephen’s performance value. Carrie Ann says they were both opposite styles.

The winner is Jenn and Sasha

Danny and Witney vs Joey and Jenna – Jive – “Time Warp”

I love that they clearly choreographed the beginning of their dances to be in sync with each other! In the end, Joey really nailed the steps and kicks and flicks, while, as always, Danny did great for zero experience. Joey and Jenna’s choreo was overall more fun.

Bruno calls it the battle of the six packs, then says they worked so hard and did so well. Carrie Ann says it was very impressive and their approaches were very different. Derek says it was genuinely hard to judge and congratulates them on the battle.

The winner is Joey and Jenna

RESULTS

The bottom three are… Chandler and Brandon, Stephen and Rylee and Jenn and Sasha

The couple going home is… Jenn and Sasha

DWTS will be off next Tuesday for Election Day and it will be back on November 12th!
