Dancing with the Stars 2024 Semi-Finals Dance Styles, Song Choices

The show opens with a group number to “Dance The Night” featuring the pros and troupe.

Chandler and Brandon – Salsa – “Spicy Margarita”

Definitely a hot dance, but something about it looked just a tad messy for such a great dancer in the semi-finals. Almost like we just watched a dress rehearsal, mainly with the lifts.

Carrie Ann says it was amazing and she was on fire. Derek says she danced like she was already in the finals, but felt there wasn’t enough Salsa content. Bruno says that cocktail hit the spot and she got hotter and hotter and hotter.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 10 = 29/30

Joey and Jenna – Foxtrot – “I Won’t Dance”

Love this combination of modern and jazzy Foxtrot. Joey’s really got moves. He’s such a natural, but this specific style probably didn’t showcase how well he could do a traditional Foxtrot.

Derek says it was a masterclass and Fred Astaire is high fiving him right now. Bruno says he’s got charisma and charm and credits Jenna for the dance. Carrie Ann says the race is on and his stardom is just beginning.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 10, Bruno- 10 = 30/30

Ilona and Alan – Paso Doble – “Unholy”

Ilona’s getting sexy with this Paso! She’s perfecting the lines and aggression in the solo parts.

Bruno says it was strong and focused, but critiques the lack of Flamenco flavor. Carrie Ann she’s gone the further in the competition and has made an incredible transformation, but critiques that they got too close at moments in the dance. Derek gives her his slow clap and says it felt like “her dance.”

Carrie Ann – 9, Derek- 10, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Danny and Witney – Viennese Waltz – “Gravity”

Danny did a beautiful job with a dance so out of his comfort zone. Gorgeous choreo on Witney’s part.

Carrie Ann calls it impressive and says he approached it with true authenticity. Derek compliments his frame and Witney’s choreography, then critiques Danny’s slight lack of emotion. Bruno says his determination and connect to Witney melts his heart and he’s improved at every level.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 27/30

The competition breaks for a group performance from the pros going on the DWTS Tour after this season.

Stephen and Rylee – Cha Cha – “Bailar”

Stephen has struggled with hips and Latin motion this whole season, but he’s got the flavor of the dance down and love the way he’s going for sexy in this one.

Derek says the dance got the better of him but had some strong moments as well. Bruno says he caught the feel of the dance but needs to work on for placement and hip action. Carrie Ann says he went a step backward with the musicality.

Carrie Ann- 8, Derek- 8, Bruno- 9 = 25/30

Chandler and Brandon – Foxtrot – “Too Sweet”

Another modern feeling Foxtrot. Chandler’s showing off her beautiful lines again. Love the way they gave the dance a story and made it more intense rather than elegant.

Bruno says “Viva la Diva” and calls it the most sensuous Foxtrot he’s ever seen. Carrie Ann says she’s still growing and still evolving and sharing it all with us, but then notes her foot came off the floor twice. Derek says Chandler has brought the best out of Brandon and calls it a phenomenal performance.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 10, Bruno- 10 = 29/30

Joey and Jenna – Paso Doble – “Come Together”

Joey is attacking this Paso! Great lines, great legs, beautiful partnership. Very different ending with them both finishing on their knees.

Carrie Ann says she loved the attack and passion, but he was a tad ahead of the music at the beginning and he stumbled at the end. Derek says he Pasoed all over that Double. Bruno says it was ferociously intense but he messed up a little bit.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 10, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Ilona and Alan – Viennese Waltz – “golden hour”

You can definitely tell this is a style Ilona struggles in, but she looks like she’s having the time of her life dancing with Alan. Very pretty choreo.

Derek says it was a stunning contrast from her Paso. Bruno says she was radiant and showed vulnerability. Carrie Ann says she’s honored to have watched that dance and she’s changing people’s lives.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 10 = 29/30

Stephen and Rylee – Tango – “Sweet Disposition”

Stephen has always done better at ballroom dances, and he just danced most of it without his glasses after they fell off! They both had some beautiful snapshot moments during it.

Bruno says he was trying his best and he “did it.” Carrie Ann compliments the way he was able to do the dance with his glasses wonky and he led Rylee like a pro. Derek says it was so impressive and a triumphant moment.

Carrie Ann- 10, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 28/30

Julianne surprises everyone in the sky box by doing a quick change and hitting the dance floor with the male pros and troupe.

Danny and Witney – Salsa – “I Like It”

Danny definitely struggled with this one. He looked as if he stumbled at times and needed to keep looking to Witney to know what came next.

Carrie Ann says he went for it and compliments the lifts. Derek says he blew the roof off and the lifts were 10/10. Bruno says it was a wonderful end to a spectacular night.

Carrie Ann- 9, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 27/30

RESULTS
