Dancing with the Stars 2024 Soul Train Night Dance Styles, Song Choices

The episode opens with a Soul Train group number featuring the pros, stars, troupe, judges and Popin Pete of The Electric Boogaloos.

Phaedra and Val – Quickstep – “Think”

Look at Val showing off his splits before they get into hold! Phaedra is going too slow for a Quickstep. It definitely looks like she can’t keep up with the dance.

Derek says there’s no question she has soul and notes a few footwork and arm issues. Bruno says she’s retro-fabulous and critiques her frame. Carrie Ann says she’s the queen and has fire. Rosie says you can’t be taught how to boogie and Phaedra knows how to boogie.

Carrie Ann- 8, Rosie- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 30/40

Ilona and Alan – Foxtrot – “Lady Marmalade”

This May be Ilona’s best dance yet. That opening, she hit every mark. Really impressed with her frame too. Alan made that really fun choreography.

Bruno says it was a proper Foxtrot but notes a tiny mistake. Carrie Ann says she’s improved so much and it was beautiful. Rosie says she did a wonderful job. Derek says he loves “Ballroom Dancer Ilona.”

Carrie Ann- 8, Rosie- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 30/40

Eric and Britt – Foxtrot – “Let’s Stay Together”

This was another case of “let the pro do all the dancing while the star mostly stands there.” The dancing he did do, he did well. Love the end with him giving his wife a kiss after dedicating the dance to her.

Carrie Ann says this is the true beauty of dance and dedicate his movements to another person and comments he needs to bend his knees more. Rosie says she’s proud of him and compliments his bravery. Derek says Eric’s intention of the dance gave him the clarity to do it and calls it beautiful. Bruno says they could all see the dance meant something to him.

Carrie Ann- 7, Rosie- 6, Derek- 5, Bruno- 6 = 24/40

Stephen and Rylee – Quickstep – “Superstition”

Stephen has a way of making every dance he does look fun. His posture shone in this, but he definitely had issues with the footwork at first. It always looks like his legs were made for dancing.

Rosie critiques the timing and says he was stuff, but that he’s “so cute.” Derek says it was breezy and light, but gives him advice on his frame. Bruno says it was like Prom Night 1972 and compliments his springy quality in the Quickstep. Carrie Ann says he needs to feel the ground before the lift off when it comes to timing.

Carrie Ann- 8, Rosie- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 30/40

Brooks and Gleb – Rumba – “Sexual Healing”

Definitely sexual. She’s got great lines. Models tend to be good at Rumba due to the passion of the dance.

Derek says the dance got him pregnant, then says it was a beautiful Rumba but wishes there was more dancing. Bruno says she could bring the dead back to life and it was all brilliant. Carrie Ann says every movement was stunning. Rosie says she has it and needs to trust in herself and believe in herself.

Carrie Ann- 7, Rosie- 7, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 28/40

Joey and Jenna – Jive – “Shout”

Joey impresses me every week. That backflip! This was such a classic Jive and I love to see it. It’s like Jenna packed in every possible Jive step.

Bruno compliments his musicality. Carrie Ann says he’s so talented and every movement was crisp. Rosie says this embodied the spirit of Soul Train. Derek says it has so much content and Joey had more moves than Uhaul.

Carrie Ann- 9, Rosie- 9, Derek- 8, Bruno- 8 = 34/40

Dwight and Daniella – Cha Cha – “Let’s Groove”

Dwight had the time of his life doing this dance. It’s impossible to learn and understand Latin motion in a few days, so all things considered, I think Dwight did the best he could.

Carrie Ann says it was hard to watch and she knows he can do better than that. Rosie says he needs to work a little harder. Derek compliments his performance quality, but says it felt unrehearsed. Bruno says he can move and groove and boogie all night long, but has to work on his technique.

Carrie Ann- 6, Rosie- 6, Derek – 5, Bruno- 6 = 23/40

Danny and Witney – Foxtrot – “Dancing Machine”

I love a groovy Foxtrot with some Witney flare! Danny is another one who has really impressed me.

Rosie says she thought it could be better and he needs to bring his confidence to the floor. Derek says it was awesome and loved seeing his personality shine through. Bruno says he needs to learn to become lyrical. Carrie Ann says she’s impressed and this week he popped.

Carrie Ann- 8, Rosie- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 7 = 30/40

Reginald and Emma – Foxtrot – “I Can See Clearly Now”

Reginald is another one who does the best he can and has a blast doing it. He hardly did anything, especially for a Foxtrot, but we all noticed that hint of Carlton at the beginning.

Derek says he loves watching him dance. Bruno says it was a laidback semi-trot. Carrie Ann says his dancing is sweet and innocent and gives us beautiful joy. Rosie says she loves and adores him.

Carrie Ann- 6, Rosie- 5, Derek- 5, Bruno- 5 = 21/40

Jenn and Sasha – Viennese Waltz – “Fallen”

Jenn nails another dance! Viennese Waltz is arguably the prettiest of all ballroom dances and she oozed it.

Bruno says it was the sexiest Viennese Waltz he’s ever seen. Carrie Ann also is it sexy and compliments their chemistry. Rosie says it was hot, fly, and all that. Derek compliments her frame and how she applied his note from last week.

Carrie Ann- 8, Rosie- 8, Derek- 7, Bruno- 8 = 31/40

Chandler and Brandon – Cha Cha – “Tricky”

This felt like a Hip Hop Cha Cha! She really hits every move and every step and every line.

Carrie Ann compliments their partnership and cool vibe. Rosie says the routine personified the feeling of soul in Soul Train and tells Chandler to let her sexuality explode. Derek says she danced so hard and compliments Brandon’s choreo. Bruno says the technique was spot on and she has huge star quality.

Carrie Ann- 9, Rosie- 9, Derek- 9, Bruno- 9 = 36/40

Meet me back here tomorrow night for another round of dancing and a double elimination!
