Here is a fun holiday treat. Glee star Darren Criss dropped the official music video for his Christmas duet with American Idol alum and Queen frontman Adam Lambert.
The two join forces on “(Everybody’s Waitin’ For) The Man With the Bag.” It’s a jazz standard performed by Kay Starr, and later by The Brian Setzer Orchestra and Jane Monheit. The song comes from Darren’s new Christmas album, A Very Darren Crissmas.
In the cute clip, Darren and Adam, dressed in tuxedos, plan an elaborate Rube Goldberg style prank for Santa. But unsurprisingly, Santa has seen it all before, and turns the tables–good naturedly–on the jokesters. Don’t pop that champaign just yet guys!
“I always knew that if I ever made a Christmas album, it would have to be much more than just a collection of songs you already knew,” Darren told People in an exclusive announcement. “I’d want it to be a journey through songs that not only had a personal significance to my life, but also a unique introduction to songs folks had never heard before, and a re-introduction to a few they might think they know – but have never considered differently.”
Darren and Adam perform the song LIVE on The Kelly Clarkson Show
Darren and Adam also performed the song for the Kelly Clarkson Show, which aired on Tuesday (Nov. 30). Check out the fun live performance, featuring the duo dressed in heery red suits.
In his interview segment, Darren describes how Adam ended up on the song.
“This wasn’t like label meetings, and people calling artists,” Darren confessed. “It’s just me and my phone being like, hey man, can you do this thing with me?”
Darren gushed, “Obviously, Adam is an extraordinary vocalist. and mainly doing rock and pop stuff nowadays. But he has a real jazz pedigree.”
“He’s an incredible vocalist,” Kelly chimed in.
“It’s fun when you’re writing for a Mustang. When you know you have a thoroughbred stallion.” Darren says, “I can’t believe I got him to do it!. He sounds incredible on it.”
