I finally took a listen to Demi Lovato’s new single “Skyscraper” after Jordin Sparks tweeted that she sang background vocals on it.
Demi spent 3 months in treatment last fall after an altercation with one of her employees made her realize she needed help with an eating disorder she’d kept secret from nearly everyone.
“Skyscraper” is sung as an intense reflection of the long journey the young singer has spent battling her demons. I didn’t expect to be moved by this song, but wow–Demi’s been through it and she’s not afraid to strip her emotions to the bare bones.
She premiered the song on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show today.
You can also listen to her two part interview with Ryan HERE and HERE.
Demi spoke of her family saying “they’ve known that I’ve had issues with food and eating for about six years now. Every now and then they would ask are you okay, are you eating? I was able to check in with them, but it got to a point when I was just lying to everyone. My managers, the people I was working with. I was lying about eating, and just being happy.” She continued, “It was the elephant in the room. Everyone knew about it, but didn’t know how to approach it. It was affecting every area of my life. I was being cranky, I was irritable, not pleasant really to work with. I became a little brat on set, and I just had so much growing up to do. Ultimately, I was never intentionally attempting to be that way, but I had so much going on in my head.”
On another not, Demi struck down the rumors that she recorded a duet with Kelly Clarkson.
