Not made totally clear in the initial promotion of the upcoming ABC singing competition, Rising Star, is that you have to have a smartphone or tablet in order to download the voting app. Unlike most competitive reality shows that allow viewers to determine the winner, there’s no voting capability via web portal or Facebook app.
At this point, do most of you own smart phones and/or tablets? I’ve had an iPhone since around 2009. Anyway, the interactive part of the show–which is the big draw for real time viewers–will be unavailable to those not up on the latest technology.
If you live on the west coast, you’ll also be out of luck, as the show won’t be airing in real time there. West coasters will be able to vote during their airing of the show, and can affect the outcome of contestants who came close to the 70% threshold on the east coast.
