Fifth Harmony’s Normani Kordei and her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy chatted with Access Hollywood Live’s Natalie Morales and Kit Hoover about teaming up on this season of Dancing with the Stars. Why was Normani especially excited to be paired with Val? And, who will be their biggest competition in the ballroom?
When Natalie declared that former gymnast and dancer Normani “got it all going on” and maybe had an advantage over some of the other contestants, the singer disagreed, “This is quite different!”
“The style of dance that I did…was way different,” Normani insisted. “Ballroom is a whole ‘nother world.”
However, while Val described Normani as “talented and hardworking,” he added that she “still had a long way to go.” Val said: “She’s really out of shape to be honest…” Normani agreed. Val further explained, “I’m coming off a season with a pro athlete,” Val and Simone Biles won the fall cycle My level of expectation…are pretty high. She’s going to meet them eventually.”
Even if Normani was in the best shape ever, the real ringer of the coming season is professional dancer and Glee alum Heather Morris, who is partnering with Val’s brother Maks.
The couple’s first dance is the quickstep, which is fast and furious. The pair have been running exhausting drills in rehearsal. “It’s a challenge,” said Normani, who admitted that she’s practically passing out by the end of rehearsal.
Good news for Fifth Harmony fans! Val will be accompanying Normani on the group’s upcoming Asian tour. “I’m the Fifth in the Harmony!” said Val. The two will be flying back and forth to Los Angeles to tape the show on TWO Mondays. Cutting it close!
