Erin Andrews still has a gig covering NFL football games, but being fired as host of Dancing with The Stars, along with veteran broadcaster Tom Bergeron, has got to sting.
It was a surprise, says Erin
“It was a surprise,” Erin said in a recent interview with Extra. “I got a phone call and I answered the phone. I was like, ‘This isn’t good.’” That’s one way of putting it!
Still, she remains close to her DWTS family.
“I text Tom, like once a week … and the dancers as well. That’s a family,” she said. “I danced on the show and then worked on the show for so many years. I always call it a Dancing with the Stars mafia — once you’re in, it’s really hard to break away. That’s a tight-knit group.”
Erin has high praise for Tom.
Tom was my ballroom quarterback
“Tom was my ballroom quarterback. He was that show’s ballroom quarterback,” Erin said of Tom, who hosted the show from day one since the series premiere in 2005. “He was the end-all, be-all of that show.”
Erin has kind words for new host, Tyra Banks, as well, even if it sounds a tad bit on the passive aggressive side: “She can nail the smizing and the walking in gowns and heels, so good for her,” she said. Because if there is one skill that’s absolutely necessary when helming a live show, it’s the ability to smize, amiright?
Tom Bergeron’s snarky Twitter header
Meanwhile, Tom Bergeron is poking total fun of his status as ex-host of DWTS, changing his Twitter bio to read, “Former Co-Host of “Footwork With the Famous.” On an instagram post, Tom hinted that hosting Dancing with the Stars was a happy experience…until 2017. That’s when a new producer, Andrew Llinares took over the show.
Also, ABC officially unveiled the Dancing with the Stars season 29 cast on Good Morning America today (Sep 2). Check out the list of celebrity dancers, including Carole Baskin, AJ McLean, Charles Oakley, Anne Heche, Johnny Weir and more.
