The Voice winners, sibling trio Girl Named Tom shared some sad news over the weekend. Their father, Christopher Leichty, died. According to his obituary, Mr. Leichty died on January 27 at age 56.
Part of the group’s backstory was how the trio pursued their dreams as their father battled a rare form of cancer, diagnosed in 2017. After The Voice crowned the Team Kelly Clarkson group the winner back in December, the siblings, Joshua, Bekah and Caleb Liechty rushed back home to be at his bedside. Mr. Leichty had just undergone surgery and suffered from “horrific pain.”
The group’s father insisted they not cancel any concert dates
Amid their father’s passing, Girl Named Tom had a weekend full of concert dates. The singers shared the news of their father’s passing on Saturday, backstage at the Holland Theater in Bellefontaine, OH. GNT then went on to perform two shows at the Niswonger Theater in Van Wert OH on Sunday.
The group kept to their schedule, only canceling the concert scheduled on Thursday at the Sauder Village in Archbold, OH on the day their father died.
“We have three shows the weekend after our father passed,” Caleb explained, “Which you may be wondering why we would do that. We are too sort of. But we want to be able to get them out of the way so that we can really throw ourselves into processing, his death and planning for his memorial service, which is coming up in the next weekends. That’s really important to us.”

“He really wanted us to do these shows,” Joshua added, “He was talking about his death, and he [said] do not let my death deter you from doing these shows. He didn’t get his wish on Thursday night, but he’ll be with us tonight.”
“He’s our stage actually,” said Bekah, who also thanked fans for their concern. “We just wanted to come out here and say thank you so much for all of your condolences and sympathy and kindness you’ve showered us with this whole process,” she said.
“We’re just happy to be able to sing while we’re still here and sing for him and everybody else too,” said Caleb.
